Woman Builds $20,000 Dog House for 3 Pampered Pets

What does a $20,000 dog house look like? A lot like a regular house, only smaller and with furniture lower to the ground. 42 year old Tammy Kassis lives with her husband outside of Los Angeles and when an owl almost carried one of her 3 dogs away she decided to give them, Chelsea, Coco Puff, and Darla, a home of their own. She commissioned Alan Mowrer of La Petite Maison in Denver for the job and the result is an 11ft replica of the family home with luxury features like hardwood floors, heat, A/C, screened doors and windows, mini-blinds, handmade curtains, and landscaping complete with a white picket fence. She's even planning to install a plasma TV so the dogs can all watch Animal Planet together, their favorite show.
Mrs. Kassis was quoted as saying "My dogs are my life," but I can't help but wonder how much time are the dogs spending in this $20,000 doghouse instead of in the regular house with the family? Regardless, it's quite the accomplishment. See more shot, including the interior, in the gallery below.

I agree with you will, 100%. I have an entire kennel(cat). Do you know how many bags of cat food that would have bought. Or even my continuing vet bills. I wish someone would make a donation to me as I am not NON-PROFIT .

it's a really cute house, but i agree with Swanksax and Donald.
Is she planning to keep the dogs in that house and never in the main house with the family? i don't think so but if so then they aren't her life.
she could have given that money to a shelter, help homeless and abused animals because I don't see how this thing gives those dogs any protection. this owl flies lady, are you forgetting that? it will swoop down, just like it did before, right into the fenced in area, and ooopps, you've just wasted how much money???
this if for showing off!

Those dogs have been stripped of their dignity and idenity. That is animal abuse. Satilite or cable? LM

Pampered pets? We have 3 ankle biters that are pampered pets but they live in our house and are treated like family -- not segregated from everyone in a ritzy doghouse. No matter how fancy the doghouse, the dogs are not "your life" if you shut them away from you. How I wish we had $20,000 to spare. Our local humane shelter would benefit and untold numbers of dogs and cats would be saved.

Her husband is a moron. Next thing we'll read is that she ran out of things to piss away money on and divorced the schlepp for half of his dough. He probably made his money at a bank bonusing himself with our tax dollars. I'll bet it will cost him consideerably more than 20K to get rid of her dumb ass.

Stupid is as stupid does. It will cost her hubby considerably more than 20K to get rid of her cellulose fanny in the State of California.

If I had disposable income I would do the exact same thing for my baby boy Taylor, my shihtzu. He has been the love of my life and deserves nothing less.

This come as a shock to many, but DOGS can’t LOVE you back!!!! This lady loves her dogs, but if she only knew that animals can’t love back, she probably would have spent her money on something else. Animals are programmed to respond to us and our excitement…. Here is an idea, spending it on something eternal, like spreading the Gospel which she might be doing now, but I’d hate to give an account to our Lord, Jesus for spending $20,000 that HE entrusted me with on a dog house.

I guess if you got the money you can make anything happen, but geesh, I'd like to rent a room from one of those doggies.

It is her money to do with as she wishes, nonetheless it's very sad.
What her dogs want most is to be with her.
The money would be very helpful to help less fortunate dogs in a shelter

Horrific waste of money. Wouldn't it have been nice to give this money to children who are starving in this country. I think the dogs could do without a plasma tv.
am I the only one who thinks this is a little over the top?
peptolg Apr 13th 2010 3:47PM
Dumb broad could have solved the problem by letting the dogs stay inside the real house!
pinus1 Apr 13th 2010 3:49PM
Tammy, This is nice. Twenty grand? Does that include the television?
Five dollars to Focus Adolescent Services would help to save American children.
How do you spell, "priorities?"
silkylady70 Apr 13th 2010 4:50PM
There should be a law that say you have to have your pets spaded, that would help all of the pet in shelter.

God will judge her and I suspect he will have a question like this: What did you do to help your fellow man, woman or child in need? Did you feed the hungry, cloth the unclothen, or lift up the weiry or did you spend your money and efforts on an animal instead?

I think it is awsome, if i had the money i would do it for my 6 little ones, it looks fantastic
