Moby Nabs A Hollywood Real Estate Deal

They say good things come to those who wait and sometimes that can be especially true when it comes to real estate. Musician Moby has snapped up the home once known as Wolf's Lair. The Norman-style castle sits under the Hollywood sign high above Los Angeles' Beachwood Canyon. We first covered it last year when it had had a huge price drop from $7.5 million (the price the house was listed for in June 2008) to $4.7 million. The home was owned by TV personality Debbie Matenopoulos and Lionsgate Entertainment music executive Jay Faires. The couple reportedly bought in 2002 for $2.9 million and are selling to Moby for $3.925 million.

The 5,485-square-foot castle sits on 3.3 acres. It was built in the 1920s and includes a two-bedroom guest house designed by architect John Lautner. The main house was built by and named after L. Milton Wolf, the developer of Hollywoodland. The Hollywood sign itself was created by Wolf to advertise Hollywoodland. The home includes a heart-shaped black-bottom pool. The LA Times Hot Property column reports that Moby will be restoring the property although the listing pics we saw don't look too shabby at all.

Moby has an abiding love of quirky homes although his taste isn't rooted in any one style. He has owned both a two-bedroom tower apartment in New York City and minimalist masterpiece upstate in the past. Wolf's Lair with its coffered ceilings, stenciled beams, turrets and gable windows seems like the perfect place for him.
