Paula Mendoza Rings are Raw, Earthy, and So Ugly They're Beautiful
Off balance, unexpected, and definitely meant to draw attention, raw emeralds take center stage in this collection of rings by Paula Mendoza that I stumbled across over at Vivre. Raw can describe more than just the gems, as the designs themselves evoke a very primitive and unpolished (figuratively and literally) vibe as chunks of emeralds and other gems are paired with dented and misshapen 24k gold vermeil for a results that looks almost as if it could have been pulled directly from the Earth as is. I think they're really ugly but also quite beautiful. Very fluid and abstract. I'm a huge fan of raw gems though so that could be part of it, what do you think? $325 - $650

Rigel I think you're mad! Well I did until I looked at the Amethyst bracelet anyway. I too am a fan of uncut stones but Paul Mendoza lost me on most of his pieces. I think a little more refinement like that in the bracelet would garner more sales. - Ravi Shanghavi

I still think they're ugly.

I don't think they're ugly. Gross, disgusting, and tasteless might be better fitting terms.

they're not the most gorgeous piece of jewelry but some people might think they're pretty, like the creator maybe?

While the Amethyst Bracelet is the probably the best looking piece I still think it is ugly. If you are a fan of uncut stones you should take a look at LILLY BARRACK.

Must be a slow news day. Why does anyone think we would be interested in seeing jewelry that looks like something a five year old created?
Yuck.

No, they aren't !

Just because they are uncut stones, do they have to be set in something that looks like it has been chewed up and spit out?

I can't imagine wearing any of the rings because they are so wide they would hurt your fingers; not to mention that all but one of them are vermeil and for that kind of money I wouldn't want something that is not solid gold - even 10K or silver. Interesting is what I might say, but not enough to buy for a wad of money.

Uh, yeah. That's like saying that the open sewer smells so bad, it actually smells good.
