If the vacation were, "For you and your toy", I might understand it. What would the toy bring back as far as memories and "life-changing" events. Inanimate objects may bring back scents (like hanging out at the tavern or rock [herbal-smoked] concert), but what else.

Animal vacations may have some value (animals may need a break from their owners/ trained-slaves) to learn what they may be missing. They may come home from the vacation either loving their owners even more, or wanting to go on vacation again, as the the vacation may be more satisfying than their home life.
