Louis Vuitton Offers $10,000 Alligator Wingtips

At an astonishing price of $10,000 per pair, Louis Vuitton is offering what are perhaps the world's most expensive pair of men's dress shoes for Spring / Summer 2010. The Manhattan Richelieu wingtips are finished in waxed genuine alligator skin. Designed to embody the famed French firm's tradition of luxury and craftsmanship with a bit of vintage flair, the handmade footwear features intricate stitching and a subtle pattern of perforations. They are crafted using Blake construction, a shoe-making technique designed to impart immediate suppleness and comfort. The thread is embedded in the outsole, making it less vulnerable to wear and tear. The stylish shoes have a glove-soft leather lining, a Ruthenium-finish metal LV monogram cube embedded in the leather heel and a hand-painted leather sole.

With so many people begging for jobs and rampant Third-World hunger how can any company market $10k shoes with a serious face? A sick commentary on conspicuous consumption gone wild.
Epicurus Feb 26th 2010 5:03PM
I make in the high 7 figures and there is nothing wrong with splurging a little on $10K shoes if I desire. If I can afford it, and I like those shoes, I damn well have the right to buy it. There is nothing that says that I have to donate my money to some pan-handler or do-good organization. It is my money and I can do whatever I please with it--be that buying $10K shoes or renting out a tropical island for a private vacation.
lreenterprise Feb 27th 2010 2:38AM
Just because you can afford something doesn't mean it's appropriate to do. However, I have less concerns about $10000 shoes than I have about CEO's being paid a bonus when their companies are being broken up, stock prices stagnant, etc. I have to laugh every time my company says (with regard to safety or quality) that we can't give employees who have been exceptionally safe or quality conscious any significant monetary reward (so give them a free pass for a coke or something small), but we turn around and give our CEO's bonuses for what is also their job.

I, for one, am sick of constantly being hit on to "give money" to help all of the poor people in the world. In fact, I now am at the point where I will give nothing to these poeple. I go to work every day to earn money to feed, house and cloth my family....and if I have dollars left over (disposable income), I will purchase whatever I want with that money. If you are willing to give your income to the "needy", more power to you. The poor are a bottomless pit that you are throwing your money into....it reminds me of the question "Which would you rather have, World peace...or a new Cadillac?" Personally, I believe that the Cadillac comes with a much better warranty.

WEALTHY PEOPLE HAVE THEIR OWN WORLD. IF THEY WANT IT AND CERTAINLY CAN AFFORD IT THEY GET WHAT THEY WANT.
BUT NO TAXES WOULD THEY PAY FROM THIS COUNTRY WHERE THEY BECAME RICHER THAN S--T.
OH I AM SURE THEY GIVE ONE TO SEVEN MILLION BUT DONT FORGET
THERE IS SO MUCH MORE THERE IS NO PROBLEM.
IT HAS BEEN WRITTEN ABOUT GREED FOR YEARS BUT ONLY COUNTRYS LIKE THE SOCIALIST OR COMMUNIST STOPPED THAT AND THE DICTATORS AND THEIR HOARD OF FRIENDS AND FAMILY GIVE BETTER THAN THE PAST KINGS AND EMPORERS.
OUR LITTLE BAND OF MEN WHO DIDN'T WANT TO PAY TAX ON THEIR
NECESSARY CUPA LEAD THE WAR TO CUT THEM OFF OF KINGS AND
DICTATORS.
ANYBODY WHO IN POWER ANYBODY IN CHARGE ANYBODY WHO LIVES FOR HIMSELF OR HERSELF ALONE WILL BUY WHAT THEY WANT, DO WHAT THEY WANT AND SECURE HELP FROM THE PEOPLE IN CHARGE UNDER THEY TO MAKE SURE NOTHING EVER HURTS THEM.
DEATH OF LAST PEOPLE WHO WERE IN CHARGE AND KILLED SUCH AS THE KENNEDY'S WERE BOTHERING THE WHITES WHO HATED THE BLACKS AND THE LARGE GROUP OF GANGSTERS WHO HATED THEM SO.
WHY SHOULD YOU CARE IF THEY BUY THE SHOES. THEIR SUITS COST THOUSANDS THEY BUY SHIRTS BY THE HALF TO A DOZEN AT A TIME
OR WOMEN ENJOY FOR THOUSANDS TO CHANGE THEIR BODIES AND FACES AND HAIRS AND CLOTHES IN INORMATE AMOUNTS.
SOME GUY WRITES ABOUT A $10,000 PAIR OF SHOES. SO WHAT I AM SURE IT HAS BEEN GOING ON A LONGER TIME THEN ANY OF US CAN REMEMBER.

How pathetic when a consumer thinks that by buying a 10k pair of shoes makes him the better man. Don't get it twisted island boy not all are panhandlers, some may have just lost their jobs and are in pain because they don't know if they can feed their crying children at night. Maybe when you get older you'll realize what's really important. Maybe you're just clueless because you were born with a silver spoon in your mouth. In the meantime be careful not to trip over a branch and crack your skull while on that tropical island. While wearing your girly gators of course.

I wouldn't spend $80 on those, they're fugly.

whatever floats your boat.... its your money... you earned it... you should be able to enjoy it..
isaiahluvmom Feb 26th 2010 9:42PM
I agree with EPICURUS it is his money and he can do as he please with it. He earned it just like everyone else earns their money. I do not have much but I do believe that you should not judge someone or expect them to do anything for others just because they have a lot of money. Yes, the shoes are high priced but they are priced for the rich and the fashion individual. You cannot get upset for what others have, can afford or look at what they do with there own funds. But, rather be grateful for what you have even if it is very little.
Yerdy Feb 28th 2010 10:56AM
You know, Epicurus, you seem to have a great need to brag about your salary. Who cares how much money you make, other than your family and the IRS? There is nothing wrong with giving money/time to an organization (or organizations) that supports causes you support (if you have any). I'm betting, though, that you can't look past your checkbook to see there are people and animals in need of help. You aren't being asked to give ALL of your money or your surely (to you at least) valuable time. Just remember to give some back. It will not only make you feel better, but it will assist others in making their lives better. Though, with your current attitude, you would not do well in volunteering your time or money as you would begrudge every second and cent. Do what you can when you can and make your little corner of the world a better place when you leave it.

I could not see me buying a pair of shoes that much because if I had the money, I would fix up my home, put a central heater and ac and after that i would try to help others that are in the same fix. You see, good deeds don't go unnoticed. I want you to know that I'm not putting anyone down or be judgeamental, it's that us poor folks need the extra money for Dr. bills, buy a decent car or truck and etc. God helps those that helps others.
Sincerely Always,
TRISH
Cherie Feb 26th 2010 9:57PM
Epicurus if you like them and can get them. Wear them in good health. Because with or without those shoes. You sound self made. About time someone stood up for themselves, do it in those shoes:)
kj Feb 26th 2010 11:06PM
BIG assumption that a [self acclaimed] millionaire is "a self- made man". Good chance, if he makes what he says he makes, that some of MY tax dollars buying those shoes for him.
nthn Feb 26th 2010 9:59PM
While I agree that spending $10,000 on a pair of shoes is a little much, it is his money and he can spend it as he so chooses.
Rancid Ron Feb 26th 2010 10:19PM
Have to say I'm in the lower to mid 5 figures & I'm certainly old enough to know whats important or a priority.
I'm thinkin if epicurus is capable of making High seven figures ..by whatever means I say "Good for him" & if he wants to strut around his rented or purchased tropical Island in a pair of "girly gator shoes" I say more power too ya!! you've earned the right!!....Not all people were born with a silver spoon in their mouths some people just did ok for themselves by working hard !!
Martinez..Heather01 Feb 27th 2010 7:20PM
First of all, they are nice shoes. Maybe not 10k nice but I would bye them. Second, why are we criticizing people on how they spend their money? If the person wants to spend 10k on shoes, what business is it to anyone? The companies that have very expensive products are staying open because millions of people like to spend a lot of money on products. The purses, shoes and, yes, the cars that are insane amounts of money is nice to someone. That is why they stay in business. Stop critizing people about how they spend their money.
