Vista al Mar, Estate of the Day

Even some beachfront property in southern California is slow to move. One estate Vista al Mar in Dana Point, California, is headed for auction. The home is located in The Strand at Headlands, southern California's last and most exclusive beachfront community. The development has several tiers of oceanview homes, this one appears to be on one of the middle levels. The new home was once priced at over $15 million but will be auctioned off with an opening bid of just $7.5 million. The three-level estate was designed by architect Jon Eric Christner and has five bedrooms with elevator access to all three levels. The home has wood beam ceilings, arched passages and reclaimed Maltese stone floors. Rooms include a gourmet kitchen, theater room, theater room, game lounge, massage room with a sauna and spa bath, exercise room and wine cellar. The home's master suite includes a sitting room with a walk-in closet and a private terrace. The two-level patio has an infinity spa with a cascading waterfall into the larger salt water pool below. Bids on the home will be accepted until March 11.

Nice location, although quite "cookie cutter" in design. The one problem I have is that it appears one would be living in a neighborhood under constant construction, based on the empty lots!

Just another McMansion built in CA and taking up more land/space than needed for living.
Anyone who needs a bedroom so large that it will also serve as a TV room, family room, or Living Room seem insecure.
A bedroom is a place to sleep; to recuperate and restore the mind and the body.
With a TV and access to a mini-bar, it says that people are too lazy to put on a robe, slippers and walk to their kitchen, or too lazy to sit in their LR and watch TV.
People are trying to satisfy their every whim and pack in all into one, and in the same room.
People have lost their sense of priorities and what is important, not self gratification and instant satisfaction.

I've watched this developement since before it was acquired.
World Class neighborhood and location, incredible beach for surfing , boogie boarding, body surfing, scuba diving and snorkeling. Anchor your yacht off the beach and swim home ! I'll show you how.
The owners here will be an amazing collection of who's who on the planet. I'm happy to finance any of these incredible properties for lucky buyers. Most won't need any financing !

By all standards the homes will be narrow and right on top of each other which means only a few rooms in a given house will be ocean view. To truly make the most of the situation one would need to buy two lots or the last lot on the block. Myself, I'd rather live in Laguna Beach or Santa Barbara.
