Emocean Design for World's Largest Yacht to Beat Abramovich

Roman Abramovich's recently launched Eclipse is currently the world's largest private yacht at a whopping 557 ft. His oceanic supremacy may be short lived however, as Belgium-based Emocean Yacht Design has just unveiled plans for a 656-ft. gigayacht (above) which would put the the oligarch's new toy to shame. Like Emocean's 541-ft. design for the UK's Devonport Yachts to be featured at the upcoming Abu Dhabi Yacht Show, the 656-footer is a completely bespoke design, with equipment, styling, configuration, and class tailored to the desires and tastes of the client.
The monstrous but attractively styled vessel features a drive-in garage, two 98-foot day boats, helipad and hanger, a 100-ft. swimming pool, nightclub, casino, games room, two-level cinema, three beach clubs, a health spa, and 10 VIP rooms, 22 guest suites and a private owners deck accommodating a total of 45 passengers, along with 70 crew. Even at that size she'll be impressively fast, with a planned maximum speed of 28 knots, a cruising speed of 20 knots and a range of 6,500 nautical miles at cruising speed. No price has been mentioned yet but expect it to clock in at well over $500 million.

I guess I'm just an old hippy, but let's not build this monstosity and use the money help make the world a better place. This "thing " will cost megamillions and create few jobs! It would be better to use the money to rebuild Haiti, help starving children, stop wars or provide a cure for disease!
This way Mr. Megarich can be assured a place in the afterlife!
Monty Feb 2nd 2010 1:12PM
I do understand the sentiment expressed by Mr. Leslie; however, since the yacht is supposed to cost $500 million, that means that $500 million has to be SPENT. Spent on what? Employing shipbuilders, steel makers, engine manufacturers, cabinet makers, wiring makers, fiberglas suppliers, helicopter manufacturers, etc, etc., all of whom will employ workers to make these products for the boat.
Then 70 crew will have jobs, and since the yacht will presumably be calling on ports around the world, will supply additional jobs for food and fuel suppliers, dockworkers, and others to support this vessel.
So, Mr. Leslie, it doesn't matter how these gazillionaires spend their money, so long as the do, in fact, spend it!

You sound like a fool.. If someone has 500 million to plop down.. why would they want to rebuild that hell hole like haiti? I would go for the toy boat. Haiti will never be the place to go..period........no matter how much money you dump on them
tony Feb 8th 2010 11:46AM
YOU ARE JACKASS.THIS MAN GIVES AWAY MILLIONS.TYPICAL LIBERAL PUKE SAVE HAITI WE DONE ENOUGH HOW ABOUT WE DO NOT HAVE ANY MORE MONEY TO SAVE ANYONE,BUFFONE
Vern Feb 8th 2010 3:51PM
Your place in the afterlife is not baised on how much money you spend or on what you spend it on.
The gift of pardon is free.

WE ARE HELPING HAITI {WE HELP EVERYONE} AND FINDING A "CURE" FOR A DISEASE IS NOT COST EFFECTIVE. THEY WANT US DYING. GET YOUR HEAD OUT OF THE MUD. I WAS BORN THE SAME TIME YOU WERE AND I WAS A HIPPY BUT NOT TO THE POINT WHERE I WANT TO TAKE JOBS AWAY FROM PEOPLE. HELPING, LOVING AND CARING FOR EVERYONE SOUNDS REALLY NICE BUT IT IS NOT REAL!

If they give all to the starving then they too will starve, then who will feed them?
davis10oregon1 Feb 10th 2010 10:24AM
MANNA WILL FALL FROM HEAVEN TO FEED THEM . ONCE, THEY TOO ARE FLAT BROKE . DIDN`T YOU KNOW ?
NOW ABOUT THAT BRIDGE UP YONDER IN NEW YORK , THAT I WANT TO SELL YOU . SAY WE SAY FOR YOUR 500 MILLION ? HAVE A FUN DAY .
johnbamma Feb 2nd 2010 2:31PM
I hope it's a great seller and they make a ton of money! When has it turned into a crime to spend your money as you see fit? If everyone who owned a 14' Aluminum boat sold it and sent the money to Haiti you would still have the same probleums that caused Haiti. You would have a country supported by Rich countries who ignore their own Homeless and send money all over the world instead of demanding that the people man up and build an Economy and take care of themselves.

. . . and the ultra welathy become even more obnoxiously wealthy. No one gets this much wealth legitimately, not in a life time.
The US Navy Destroyer that I served on was ONLY 185 feet long and 45 feet wide. This "yacht" is beyond being extravagant. It is the display of wealth beyond a common person's ability to perceive. There seems to be too many people with this kind of vulgar wealth, doesn't there seem to be?
Gary Feb 10th 2010 12:21PM
What the hell does it matter to you what this man has and what he spends it on. How do you know he didn't earn it legitimately? If he didn't have any money at all, would that help YOU one bit? No, it wouldn't. Get a life and take care of your own self and your own problems and quit trying to be a nanny to others. I thought that was Obama's job.

I was invited on the maiden voyage, but there was talk of following the Somali coast on the way to Abu Dhabi, so I declined.
BHarrison Feb 2nd 2010 3:57PM
Well, if there were prudent and reasonable government regulations, oversight, and enforcement of ethical standards and practices, it is highly doubtful if most of the utlrawealthy people would have ever become ultra wealthy. There is no "sin" in becoming wealthy as long as it is achieved in a legal, ethical, and moral manner . . . but, as we know, that is not the way it is with the way that most of the wealthy got their money. And yeah, you are right about the poor not being prone to hang onto their money. Just look at howmany of the Lottery winners have wound up bankrupt.

SHUTUP PEOPLE: You want to give his money to Haiti? get real, i wouldn't give one cent to that country, Where is the billions gone already? In the pockets of those ignorant politicians over there. The people get nothing, Just like the people in Louisanna and in the tsumani effected area, NOTHING. bILLIONS AND BILLIONS OF DOLLARS NEVER REACHING THOSE WHO NEED IT. This guy that has the money for the Yacht, good for him. and as stated by another blogger, he is giving work to many, the builders etc...
roesch2695 Feb 2nd 2010 5:08PM
It's his money he should be able to spend it however he wants to
Gina Grant Feb 2nd 2010 7:24PM
Hey Monty,
In case you didn't notice, Roman Abramovich is not exactly American. How many cabinet makers or electricians do you think worked on this project? Last time I checked Pittsburgh is no longer producing steel, we primarily import it. I can see the GDP climbing with this foreign piece that will sail the Riveria, not the Potomac.
500 million spent? Probably earned illegally or from my 401K.
psinned Feb 2nd 2010 7:30PM
Haiti? it's own government never helped its own people. Now we have to rebuild and make improvements that will will come at a blouted cost and the corrupt government will keep most of that money for them selves. Did we save Bangladesh, We are the World change anything but sell albums and inflate egos?
Haiti is a tragedy but who is counting the cash box.
william bell Feb 3rd 2010 4:54AM
Its like this. They do what they want no matter what is said.Just as your president is doing.Spending more and more mony so as to break this country and then my friend,WE are in the same boat as the people in Haiti!soner or later we are all going to be in one of the porest countrys there is.And its because of whom you voited for to run your country. money is monsy as long as it isnt yours. wmb

I bet the shipbuilder, who can now hire more people vs layoffs -- and all those new workers are very glad for this yaught. And they are pretty sure the world is a better place for it.
spiwakd Feb 6th 2010 10:36AM
Everyone is jealous of the rich, so they pick on them and try to tax them out of all that they have worked for. Their spending drives our economy and creates jobs. How many of us are employed by poor people?
