Bid Now on Designer Customized Barbies!

Mattel has come out with a new concept for Barbie, teaching little girls early on in life that what every woman really needs is the perfect little black dress. Most women would agree with the company and most likely the all new Barbie Basics™ Collection will be a resounding success. Mattel has paired up with the Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA) to celebrate the launch of the dolls which are wearing little black dresses and come with accessory kits.
Who better to inspire budding pre-teen designers than some of the big names themselves. Twelve of the CFDA fashion and accessories designers have created one-of-a-kind Barbies that showcase their unique talents and tastes. These Barbie dolls are currently up for auction on eBay and all net proceeds will go to support CFDA's educational initiatives and scholarship program. The designers include Issac Mizrahi, Betsey Johnson, Rachel Roy, Justin Giunta, Lorraine Schwartz, Alex Bittar, Monica Botkier, Deborah Lloyd of Kate Spade, Tory Burch, Albertus Swanepoei, Philip Crangi and Devi Kroell. The dolls went up for auction on January 28th and will be available to bid on through February 7th.
As of January 31rst some of the bids were up to as much $3,500 for Lorraine Schwartz's Barbie with Diamonds followed by the Kate Spade Barbie at $800. For those who don't have the funds to bid on the designer e-bay Barbies, Mattel will be giving away one of the new Barbie Basic dolls and accessory pack on Twitter from February 1st - 16th.

Oh it's so sad that I actually want the entire collection. I believe, deep down inside that they each want to play with me and be my best friends. All of them. All of them.

Barbies are crappily constructed resin dolls. If you want a good, beautiful, resin doll, look into Asian ball joint dolls. They do come with hefty price tags but they are larger, fully customizable, and much higher quality. They also come in various sizes, genders, and resin colors.

Barbie will never just go away, that's Barbie, for you...wish I had stock in the damn doll, don't you?

They must have loved designing for Barbie. Finally a model who is skinny enough.

THEY LOOK A LITTLE BAZAR TO ME.

I want an Erica Kane doll that has some of those great dresses that Susan Lucci wears on All My Children. Some of those dresses are fantastic. That is what a designer Barbie should be dressed like.
NICHRID Feb 3rd 2010 12:22PM
You can buy an Erica Kane "Barbie" for about $40.00 on Amazon.com. Barbie is an icon and for all those who don't understand, well, that's just sad. Go Barbie!

Funny how Barbie has lost weight over the years....She used to be a lot curvier..dont you think??
Marti Feb 3rd 2010 2:04PM
I definitely think Barbie is less curvy than she used to be. Her bust has gotten smaller, but her waist has gotten bigger. My kids have a mix of old Barbies and new Barbies, and the old clothes do not fit the new Barbies very well -- way to small in the waist. My mother-in-law has noticed the same thing. She has a retro book of crochet patterns for Barbie clothes and had to scour garage sales to find old Barbies; the new ones were too big for the clothing.

barbie teaches girls that they have to look perfect.
Marti Feb 3rd 2010 2:00PM
Parents teach. Dolls do not.

Barbies are sooooooooooo fun!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I played with them ever since I was 5. They are DEFINITELY VERY good for the imagination! I LOVE them! They were my favorite toy! Ummmmm....... and Barbies do NOT teach girls that they need to be perfect! I've played with them for, lets see.....12 years, and they have NOT affected my thinking!

The collection is breath taking. I am very pleased that individuals are still designing with great detail for the 11.5/27 cm doll. I understand it's challenging designing for the smaller scale however, it's awe-inspiring! ;) CHEERS!

I love this idea, but why isn't there a Chanel Barbie little black dress? After all, didn't Coco Chanel invent the little black dress? Where is Karl Lagerfeld?

It's a shame that you have to twitter in order to win one of those dolls....For those of us that can't twitter, we lose! sigh Never fails
Dawn Feb 3rd 2010 2:29PM
Umm..why is the doll on the far left wearing blue and yellow? Little black dress collection with color-blind option? They do look really great though. I love the different styles, and when was the last time anyone saw a Barbie rocking short hair that wasn't created with safety scissors?

Am I the only one who realized that the five clustered together on the right look creepily like the Spice Girls?
