Luxist visited this delightful gem and found it to be the consummate place to rejuvenate the skin and soul.

Spa at the Surrey is a perfect getaway for mothers and daughters looking for a little bonding time, as well as for couples or best friends wanting to relax in a tranquil environment. For New Yorkers, a few hours spent in this spa will have you feeling like you've left the city.

Consider booking a "Half-Day Escape," which is three hours of personalized treatments including a massage, facial, manicure and pedicure. Those seeking a little more "me" time, might consider a "Full Day Escape" which includes five and a half hours of personalized treatments. Guests can order a gourmet lunch from the Café Boulud, which is located on the ground floor of the Surrey.

Those with less free time, but still in need of some TLC, might consider one of the Spa's many à la carte offerings which include a wide variety of massages, facials, cleansing and detox treatments, body treatments, waxing and nails services. Each treatment is customized according to the skin care type of each client as well as their lifestyle needs. There's a full range of massage techniques offered, including prenatal, postnatal, Swedish, reflexology, Kodo, deep tissue, 4-hand, Shiatsu, Aromatherapy and sports massages. The spa features two different product lines. One is Daurphin, an exclusive Parisian product line that features plant-based extracts, essential oils, innovative technology and multi-sensory applications. No two guests receive the same treatments, as formulas are customized for each guest according to their lifestyle and skincare needs.

The Spa also uses the full range of LT' TYA products. The best selling spa line in Australia, LT' TYA taps into the ancient healing traditions of the Australian Aboriginal culture. LT' TYA products are made with natural resources such as Tasmanian soils, native flowers, berries, kelp, barks, desert salts and indigenous plants (which are sustainably harvested). The Spa at the Surrey Hotel is the only location in New York where LT' TYA products are used and sold.

The Spa's treatments are completely customized and personalized to suit the needs of each guest. Treatments using LT' TYA products honor ancient Aboriginal healing practices, as well as advanced technology and techniques. For example, the 180 minute-long "Dreaming," includes a Miji Jina foot treatment, Mala Mayi body wrap, Kodo body massage, Paudi head massage, facial treatment and Miji Polama hand treatment. The service starts with the ceremonial burning of dried native leaves and mosses and is intended to glide the guest into a dream-like state.

Another unique Aboriginal treatment using LT' TYA products is the Mala Mayi. Lasting for 90 minutes, this treatment involves a scrub made of Desert Salt and Aromatic Oil, followed by a scalp massage. The entire body is cocooned in a layer of warm, mineral rich Mapi Body Mud, followed by a a Kodo body massage that incorporates pressure point therapy and rhythmical spiraling.

All treatments are conducted within the confines of individual, beautifully appointed and private sanctuaries, allowing for an extremely discrete, private experience for guests. There are three spacious treatment rooms and two over-sized spa suites complimented by bathrooms featuring deep tubs and steam showers. The spa also offers manicures and pedicures, hairstyling (upon request) and even makeup application by select stylists from Manhattan's finest salons, including Sally Hershberger. Another feature of the spa worth mentioning is the extremely friendly and professional staff who make each guest feel pampered and attended to.

Designed by famed interior designer Laura Rottet, the Spa at the Surrey Hotel is beautifully appointed with a white and beige monochrome palette of colors. Art deco lighting fixtures and ornate hand-painted armoires offset contemporary artworks. Throughout the spa, guests will notice incorporations of a hummingbird, a symbol of joy and happiness. Spending a day at the Spa at the Surrey hotel is sure to bring each and every guest all that and more.

The spa can be reserved for private events and in-room services are available for hotel guests. Gift certificates are also available for purchase from the Spa. Pricing for facials and body treatments start at $160 for 60 minutes and go up to $440 for three hours. Massages start at $150 for 60 minutes while two hours is priced at $280. A couple's 60 minute massage is $300. Escape packages are $385 for a half-day for one person and $770 for two. Full day packages are also available.

The Spa is the brainchild of Spa Director Cheryl Jacobs, the former Executive Spa Director at the Core Club in New York. A nationally acclaimed spa consultant, Jacobs helped develop the spa programs at the W Hotels, Monteverde Spa at Oldstone Manor, among others.
