Killybracken, Estate of the Day

Even the name of this home, Killybracken seems to recall the rocky, rugged coastline it sits upon in Gloucester, Massachusetts. The main home was built in 1927 in the Arts and Crafts style and sits on an Eastern Point peninsula. The property includes plush lawns, perennial gardens and specimen plantings on around 2.4 ocean front acres. The compound consists of five structures with more than 10,400 square feet of indoor space that includes the main house, the pool house, and the caretaker's cottage. The entertainment building has an integrated indoor/outdoor pool built with granite from the same quarry used for the original residence. The pool can be used year round.
The main residence has 14 rooms and has oak and pine woodwork, accents of polished brass, copper and leaded glass work, and decorative granite windowsills. A timbered great room offers views of the ocean and the dining room has its own fireplace. A sun room has a coved ceiling and opens onto a terrace. The library has a fireplace, ocean views and a half bath. On the second floor the master suite offers a sitting area, fireplace and a granite bath with a whirlpool spa. The master suite has a balcony that overlooks the Great Room. A 'tree house' offers a cozy private suite that is separate from the rest of the house. This property is listed at $12.75 million.

No need to look any further - this is it. Lovely. Great for my kids, too. Would love more photos to make sure it's not overly 'done' but lovely as is.

I hope that the rest of the house has more traditional interiors. From the gallery it looks like someone stuffed a 60s imitation of the F.L. Wright style into the house.
Having said that, the location and facade look lovely.

Quite the interesting offering. The interior is a slightly unhappy marriage of original wood details meets modern lounge but somehow it works in an unconventional way. I was hoping it would've retained more character like Stillington Hall did - from 1926 - another property of similarity and marketed for a price in the same region. (Sold however back in 1996 for under $1.5M) Stillington was however on more then 25 acres of land albeit not directly on the Atlantic Ocean.
The pool and its functionality is rather decadent: quote "Since the heated pool can be entered from the inside of the building with it's radiant heated indoor floor, it can be used year round below freezing and in a snowstorm."
I cannot image anyone actually testing that feature in ME not to mention the astronomical cost to use it under such conditions. The property really is geared more to be a summer retreat compound with guests and family members in residence which is fine. The price tag seems however a bit lofty for the whole package.

Lovely house, I have one question! Why not paint the front or remove the mildew if that is what it is? Or is it the film, lighting, etc?
