A speeding Ferrari recently cost a Swiss millionare the price of a small yacht.
Eastern Switzerland's St. Gallen cantonal court slapped a $290,000 fine on a repeat offender who reportedly sped down country roads at up to 137 kph (85 mph in a zone where the limit was 50). According to Reuters. he was caught while "racing through a village at 100 km per hour in his red Ferrari Testarossa" (above).
It's a hefty fine by anyone's standards, but when a man worth $22.6 million repeatedly and brazenly breaks the law and endangers lives, perhaps a big dollar amount is all that will get his attention. "Court clerk Heidi Baumann-Becker said Thursday the unidentified driver can appeal the decision, handed down in November, to the Swiss supreme court," reports Yahoo.

Switzerland isn't the only country to give speeding fines which are relative to the criminal's financial status.
See back in 2002 when in Finland, a wealthy Nokia executive was handed down (at the time) the highest fine known for his motorcycle speeding:
His fine in 2002 was 116,000 euros

You have to love the kind of car that can sell for $45,000 and generate tickets worth $290,000.
And really, 85 mph? He could have done that in a Smart car.
The real beauty here is that the ticket is based on your income and/or net worth, so if you're broke/unemployed you can speed for free, right?
