Honeysuckle Lodge, Estate of the Day

I'm always a sucker for the old homes in Newport, Rhode Island. Another beauty has hit the market. This one hasn't been on the market in over 30 years. It has a Peabody and Stearns estate circa 1896 and is located along Newport's famous Cliff Walk. The home is on over two acres of Olmstead-designed grounds including wide green lawns sweeping down to the ocean's edge. The property includes a main residences as well as a two-unit carriage house. It has a modern gourmet kitchen but much of the rest of the house is rooted in its exquisite past. Graceful touches include a wide, curving staircase, padded window seats facing the ocean view, and stately columns. This one is listed at $12 million.

Would have to update (or remove) some of the draperies (why do they call it a 'window treatment' - does it have high blood pressure? does it need a hot chocolate to have a treat?) because I'm not a big fan.
Some of the furniture could stay as part of the package.
Love the 'oval room' as a ladies sitting room - gorgeous.
Can still imagine my rambunctious kids running around here, barefooted and happy, without worrying too much if they are breaking things.
We'll take it! Someone gonna lend me $10m?

Lovely homes!
Spacious and bright!
But, OH! Those heat bills!
And the maintenance, upkeep, repairs, insurance, taxes!
And the hired help it would take to keep it looking so spiffy!
On second thought!
No thanks!
I'll keep me wee little abode and shuffle around from room to room and read a good book!
