Surround sound gets personal with the Sound Egg chair, a chair from Accousticom that will be on display at the upcoming CES show in Las Vegas. The chair takes the classic 1970s egg chair style and creates a new sound experience. It can be used for gaming, music or movies. A 10" sub woofer under the seat makes sure you feel the sound and it can be configured to stero receivers. The interior is lined with acoustic foam and both the exterior and the foam are available in a variety of colors.
The Sound Egg chair starts at $1.450.

"The chair takes the classic 1970s egg chair style and creates a new sound experience."
Shouldn't that read "The chair takes the classic 1970s egg chair style and utterly ruins it." ?
Travesty!

I'm sorry - but maybe you could engineer something that is acoustically sound - but I highly doubt it. The function fits it's form - If you don't like it - then you aren't open minded about the ideas of this new concept.

To Mr Cochran,
It's not the engineering I object to, it's the aesthetics. I have no comment to make on your device's engineering, but I would suggest a more attractive finish to the acoustic foam lining. Any finish at all, actually, would be better than the bare foam on display here.
I would also challenge your assertion that your idea is a new concept. The poster below remembers non-surround versions from more than 40 years ago ("a bit earlier than the 1970's"). Whatever the technical achievement of upgrading stereo speakers to surround, surely that's an incremental upgrade to a concept that's been around for more than 40 years.
Sincerely,
JRA.

During my misspent youth these were rather common (and, if memory serves, a bit earlier than the 1970's, altho I could be mistaken there)...they had speakers in them, tho not surround sound. The inside wasn't all set up with foam like this example, but they were great fun...it had a little directional light in there and I read War & Peace for World Lit 2 in one of them. (OK, OK! Cliffs Notes helped.)
Oh Youth....(sigh)

Horrible photograph. Makes the interior look like a kid's booster seat from Burger King.

Although I like the idea of making the chair again, something that was invented over 50 years, I have to agree with 'wayne pickard'. The chair looks horrible, and a price of 1450 for plastic and cheap from? They were cosmetically better looking in the 60's and 70's.
