Ray-Ban Craft Genuine Leather Collection

Ray-Ban has given its ultra-classic aviator shades a luxe new twist for 2010 with its new Craft Genuine Leather collection. The Craft Outdoorsman sunglasses are luxuriously detailed with hand stitched genuine deer leather accents and boast premium craftsmanship. Made in Italy they feature Ray-Ban's trademark Crystal lenses for optimum optical clarity. The leather is designed to improve and beautify with age and use. The Outdoorsman is priced at $216 and a slimmer, more contemporary model, the Caravan, is priced at $171. Both are now available in either gold with brown leather or silver with black leather combos and matching cases from haute online eyewear boutique Eyegoodies.

The leather on the top looks stupid.

it's a sweat catcher! ha!
flashcashatm Jan 4th 2010 8:12PM
What a terrible idea. Just wait until the oils from your scalp and hair discolor the leather!

guy Jan 4th 2010 7:21PM
I wear "aviators" when I fly. These leather ones are crap. Flashcash is right, they'll turn into a gooey mess after a while.

Oakley's are always better!!!!!

These are not new. I am an optician of 26 years. Ihad a pair of these 20 years ago they were junk then and are junk now. Sure they look nice but as soon as you wear them a couple of times and get sweat on them the leather starts to fall apart and peel. Dont wast your time or money. GARBAGE brought back.

I won't buy any kind of sunglasses unless David Caruso wears them too ! He just looks so cool ! I spend hours each day trying to perfect his removal techniques. On and off. Off and on. Wow. I'm gonna sell a bunch of my baseball cards and buy some of those new leather coolies. Prics in my hood will know who be who then !

OVER $200 for SUNGLASSES! What color is the sky in your world?
Stephen Davis Jan 5th 2010 8:11AM
The color of the sky where I live is a very vivid and clear blue. The world I live in has sunglasses that shade ones eyes with quality lenses that don't have aberrations or distortions and have frames made of quality materials that withstand daily use. The "fashion designer tape" covering the cheap metal (?) (or thin plastic) frames of the dime store sunglasses peels off, making them reveal their true standards and the lenses scratch so easily that in short order they look as if the cat has been dancing on them. Some people demand quality goods and some do not. That's why there is a viable market for a wide range of pricing options. I prefer to spend my money on sunglasses that last for long periods of time and continue to function in a manner that protect my eyes from the harmful spectrums of light from the sun. These are not only fashionable but functional. They tend to be more of an investment rather than an expense. But of course, that's just in the world I choose to live in.

It is amazing what some people think is important. They will spend all this money on ray bans even if they did not protect the eyes.I know they are good glasses but you can get ones that do the same job or better and probably may or may not last longer for $10.$10 freakin dollars and these knuckle heads are spending $180 to impress other knuckle heads.
petey Jan 4th 2010 10:48PM
pilots prefer raybans for the quality and clarity of the lenses.
Tom Read Jan 5th 2010 1:10PM
Raybans have always seemed too heavy to me, and the arms have never fit well underneath earphones and helmets. The prices for the regular glasses are not totally outrageous, but they are pretty high. Usually around $80. Also, if a pair of cheap sunglasses falls out of your pocket, the worst damage is usually a scratch on the lense. Try that with Raybans; I guarantee that one or both lenses will shatter, unless it just happens to fall in grass or on some very soft surface.
Jack Don Jan 7th 2010 12:31AM
Rayban is one of the only brands where you actually get your moneys worth. Most of them feature glass lenses which have superior optics and are very hard to scratch. This model has anti reflective coatings on the back of the lenses and offer polarized filters.
For everyone talking about $10 sunglasses, what a joke. Tricks are for kids silly rabbits. Go see a Dr with a license from a cracker jack box. They are toys. No protection Chinese crap.
What on earth are you doing on Luxist to begin with, isnt this a luxury site? Go check out walmarts blog they might feature $40 sunglasses there....wait thats too steep how about canal street you can buy them for $5

Love the leather trim. I bought a pair like this 25 years ago and still had them last year until I lost them in Fiji. On my pair the leather was like fine wine it only got better with age.
Good leather not "pleather"only gets character as it ages.
Ron Jan 7th 2010 1:47AM
Go ahead...... tell me how $10 glasses are the same. Does everyone understand the difference between "polarized" lenses (a non-term) and prescription-quality sunglasses that protect against UVA, UVB and UVC? (Look up all three types before bitching at me.)
Ray Ban (by Bausch & Lomb) is to eyewear what Levi's are to jeans. Both were the first or best in their field when they arrived and both were and are American. If you don't like the leather bridge, then don't buy it.
bellalouie Jan 9th 2010 1:19PM
what are these buffons doing on Luxist, Ray Bans expensive? These are the haters who probably buy their shades at CVS. They're relatively inexpensive compared to other Luxist type glasses and they are a classic style that never really goes out of style. Who wears their glasses smashed against their forehead anyway, dearskin only looks better with age Yahooooos!
