Former Sacramento Kings basketball star Chris Webber is out of the restaurant business at least for the time being. The
Sacramento Bee reports on the closure of
Center Court With C-Webb, the sports restaurant he opened in the area three years ago. The restaurant closed today but a phone message on the restaurant's line says that there may be a new location in the future. No one is sure why the restaurant suddenly closed and whether or not the economy played a factor. Last month, Sacramento police arrested a man in connection with a fatal gang-related shooting outside the restaurant. The restaurant served sandwiches, steak and a variety of burgers including the "Fab 5," a burger with 44 ounces of choice Angus beef which sold for $29.50.

TYPICAL says it all

Um... Did you read something I didn't? Who said he or his establishment were involved in the shooting? All the article said was that a crime occurred outside his restaurant. Maybe he wants to move to a better neighborhood. That's trying to succeed by traditional business practices. Just what's so typical?

J.M., if a business shuts down closes "suddenly", that is not "traditional business practices". If the restaurant was moving to a better neighborhood, or had prior plans to move at all, it would have notified customers (and media) of the pending change well in advance. That would be "traditional business practices".

Actually, the crime did happen outside of his restaurant, by patrons of his restaurant. So that kind of makes his establishment involved. And the neighborhood is one of the better neighborhoods in Sac.

You're putting a negative connotation to his establishment's role in the shooting.
Unless one of the employees were to be directly involved in the shooting, or instigation of said shooting, it's wrong to imply involvement of said establishment. This is simply due to the fact that the patrons are not part of the establishment system. Employees are a part of this establishment, however patrons are of a different social circle by definition.

I am surprised at the number of extremely wealthy people who are posting on this forum, and others I have visited on AOL lately. They are all so quick to criticize Obama for spending "their tax dollars", to help this country get out of the deep economical mess Bush left us with. The only "tax dollars" Obama plans to use, is the increase in taxes for those who make over half a million dollars a year. That increase is actually a repeal of tax DECREASES, which Bush gave to the very wealthy while he was in office. Everyoe else will be better off with the plans Obama has, so I hope the middle class, and lower income people on here will just stop worrying about these complaints the greedy Republicans are making. The very wealthy Democrats are supporting Obama, because they know what Obama is doing IS HELPING this country.

Center Court was a really, really great restaurant! Sorry to see it go. Sacramento will miss Center Court just as it misses Webber.
Jim Nov 18th 2009 12:55PM
Hey William,
Just to let you know. EVERYONE that made enough income to "owe" taxes got a tax break when Bush cut taxes. It wasn't just for the wealthy. As an employer I still have all the tax books going back 12 years or so and I could prove it by showing the tax "rates".
You're a f***ing idiot! And raising taxes, as Obama will do by letting the tax cuts expire, will NOT help in a recession. Everyone picks on corporations and businesses. But without business, there are NO jobs. If all the employees are so damn valuable, let them start their own business. Then THEY can make the big bucks.

Dream on Bill if you think what he is doing is going to help the little people...What he is doing is trying to bring this country to its knees....So the government will be the wealthy and we will pay for their luxuries......Why doesn't the oval office and the congress and senate have to live by the laws they write for us? Just not fair....they need to be on social security and the health plan they devised.....God save us

If you think the only people who are going to see tax increases are the very wealthy you are dead wrong. Obama lies with every breath he takes. It is a blatent lie that he will not increase taxes on the middle class. The only people who will not see a tax increase under Obama are those who do not work at all. Take from those who are productive and give freely to those who are not productive. That is the Obama plan, and you are a fool to believe his lies when he says otherwise.
lee Nov 18th 2009 11:44AM
William Bischoff,
How in the world does what Obama spends have anything to do with this story! Is Obama on your mind that much that you have to fantasize about him while you are reading every article on the internet? It sounds to me that U suffer from Obamapenisitis. You really should see a doctor about that William? Poor SAP!

For those ppl that do not understand law, if a person gets shot and got to the hospital the hospital automatically notifies the police and the do what needs to be done, if someone get shot at a place of business they close it down until they have evidences. So C. Webb place shutting down is not a surprise.

The restaurant is in a fairly nice, newer, middle class area with access from 2 freeways. The restaurant happened to draw people from outside the neighborhood and happened to have four gang shootings within the past three months. Three of those gangs were traced back to Oakland, not Sacramento. It's not the neighborhood that was bringing the place down, it was a small percentage of the unruly clientele. These crimes occurred late at night, when the families that frequent the area are home. The place became like a night club after 10PM on weekends. It wasn't the area, I can't stress this enough.
