Kraken Rum Puts a Beast in Your Belly

The Kraken Black Spiced Rum is a newly launched product from Proximo Spirits that's named after the legendary tentacled sea beast and comes with the catch phrase "put a beast in your belly." The rum is distilled in Trinidad and Tobago with a secret blend of 13 spices, and inspired by the Kraken's legendary strength it weighs in at 94 proof and has a dark black color reminiscent of giant squid's ink. Marketed as both a smooth sipping rum and a mixer for use in drinks like "Kraken and Cola" and "Kraken Bomb," it should be available now at restaurants and retailers for $20-$30/bottle.

I feel that the use of such very obvious advert names should be, and in fact in practice is, reserved to two groups of products: the very exclusive and the very pedestraial. Now the rather common and alluring, both to drinker and maker, names can be classified by grading the actual potent nectar withing to bottle. Sadly this bottle, is, well, just rum. good rum, decent rum, but no more than that. Which can only mean that the name and the very up-to-date label, are only used to lure us to buy a sub standard potion. And indeed, having tried a sip, roughtly 50ml, of this rum, I must say that I cannot do little alse but concur.
in conclusin therefpre, what make me disdain, and even hate, this rum is not its tase, which is decent, perhaps above average even, slightly, but rather the blatant and foul advertising ploys used in pushing this spirit, that can only appeal to a certain call of america, and that I certainly cannot condone.

Bold and excessive verbage, replete with typos! Who cares? This rum is fun and novel! Relax and enjoy!

Personally, I think it's tasty. It certainly beats out Goslings (no real feat there, mind you) and certainly gives Cruzan Blackstrap a run for the money. But what really surprised me was when one of my customers liked it over Zaya, the 12-yr single-barrel of similar heritage. I suspect it will earn its place on our shelves... and in our cocktails!

Of course, I'm still waiting ot hear back from them on whether this product is guaranteed gluten-free.
Until then--if you're gluten tolerant, that is--try it with Regatta brand Bermuda-stone ginger beer and a slice of lime... For now, we'll call it a "Deep, Dark 'n' Stormy".

Well, looks from the outside to be a good marketing ploy and I would like to hear more about what it tastes like, like compared to captain Morgans and or sailor Jerry's spiced rum? how long is it aged?
