The one basic everyone needs is a crisp white cotton shirt. This one simple piece can go anywhere!

so far, the odds look good.

My mantra.... "cost per wear"! A garment made of quality fabric may cost more, but will last, and last and last!
Diane Oct 26th 2009 12:36PM
Quality over quantity! and I agree with Teresa re "cost per wear"

I'm facing the prospect of revamping my wardrobe and could really use some guidelines, so I hope I win the book! My tip is to only buy the best shoes and make sure they are properly fitted. You only need one or two pairs of black, brown and beige pumps -- not a closet full.

Splurge on a classic shoe. Take care of your pair with regular visits to the cobbler. You'll have them for years and they will punch up any outfit.

When clothes fit perfectly, people look polished and thinner. Tailoring is worth it.
Mare Oct 26th 2009 5:27PM
Make sure the clothes fit well - your body as well as your personality. You will never look your best if you are uncomfortable in your clothes.

a DVF wrap dress is ALWAYS classic

Cover the key categories to pull from every day according to your mood:
black & white, neutrals and colors;
length, cut, silhouette and texture;
and genre (who or what does the look remind you of?).
Invest a little time in organizing your things, and you'll be surprised what combinations you'll pull together.

The French understand the magic of a good tailor and proper fit, and so should you. It’s amazing how you can fake extravagance when something fits just so.
