Meg Ryan Re-Lists Her Bel-Air Home
Actress Meg Ryan is testing the real estate waters once again, putting her Bel-Air home back on the market. Ryan had first put her Spanish-style home on the market a year ago for $19.5 million. Finding no takers she withdrew it from the market in February. But as the LA Times Hot Property column reports it's back again and with a lower price. The six-bedroom home was purchased for $8.995 million in 2000 and is now listed at $14.2 million.Listing information says that the home, which was built in 1931 has had a "museum-quality" restoration that includes wood floors and ceilings, elegant tilework and graceful curved arches. Covered outdoor seating offers views of Los Angeles in the distance. It's been moderately well-staged but there are a few off notes including the placement of large photos on the kitchen counter. The property includes a pool and guest house.

Looking at the photo's of Meg Ryan's house I would say there are a few things she could do to make the house more sellable. 1. Those arched openings are too plain, they need some mouldings around them. 2. The stained wood ceiling should be painted white. it is too droll. 3. I don't like the fauna coming up from the stone work on the pool deck, it should be solid concrete all the way through, 4. The covered patio is "cold" it needs to be more inviting. 5. The general decorating doesn't fit the house, architecturally speaking. If it is a spanish style house the decor should be more spanish. The way it is it has a modern appearance. I would love to see the bedrooms !!!! Meg, If you need help let me know !!

I agree with you that Meg Ryan's home needs to be staged to look more inviting to potential buyers, however, your suggestions seem to be off base. Are you an interior designer by profession?
The house does not appear warm or finished in its design scheme, but if that is Meg's style then sorry, it's her house and she pays the bills. To stage the home for resale means most of the changes would be cosmetic and temporary. The next owners can make more permanent changes and/or improvements.
The trick is taking Meg's personality out of the home thus allowing potential buyers the option of seeing their personality infused through their furniture and belongings in place.
Painting the wood cofferred ceiling would be a crime! The ground cover around the pool deck is beautiful and adds interest to a pool who's design is plain and boring like the rest of the house. With a wall on one side of the pool takes away from the symetry, so the grassy deck is a textural aspect to balance out the heaviness of the stone wall on the opposite side. Can't you see this? With all the texture of the stone wall, how would a solid concrete suface look for a deck? Very very plain, boring and cheap!
You have to know design to appreciate it, even if it doesn't suit your personal taste. I understand aspects of the interior and exterior design schemes even though I would not want the same for myself.
To me, the house looks sparse and cold. There is no color and no life. The furniture and lack of artwork doesn't help push the spanish styling of the home, but just because a home says spanish on the outside doesn't mean it has to look like something out of Barcelona Home either.
Unfortunately the designer has not played up any particular design scheme, color scheme or styling to attract people to the architecture and the setting. But to sell the home, one does not start demolishing things or painting natural wood. It seems everyone is a designer these days! LOL

Hey "RBROCK" -- Are you for real? Do you own a dictionary? You might want to use one sometime... You write that the ceiling is "droll" -- ?? Really?? Since when is a ceiling humorous or comical or amusing??? You also write that there was "fauna" coming up from the pool deck... Really??? ANIMALS were coming up from the pool deck? Fauna means animals, and droll means amusing... Proper word usage will almost always serve you well if you're trying to make a point, let alone most especially when you're giving a critique of someone's beautiful home, furnishings, and decor...

Too funny!!!!!But you are so right,I even checked the dictionary.Meg Ryan has class and is a wonderful person and if I had the $$$ I'd buy because I can always re-decorate it in my own style,don't most buyers do that anyway, unless you want a ready to move in !!Good 4 u

You wrote that the ceiling was "droll" -- Really? Since when is a ceiling amusing or humorous? You also wrote that you didn't like the "fauna" coming up from her pool deck... Again, Really???There were ANIMALS coming up from her pool deck?
Droll means amusing and Fauna means animals...
Learning word usage will help you make your point more effective someday... Especially if you're going to critique such a beautiful home...

The lady needs some love! Wow, the house seems really chilly. Elegant, but cold! She needs to plant her lovely self in the south. I am sure she will find happiness there.

I would take this new computer and replace my older model Sony. I am a disabled adult going back to school so I can eventually go back to work. This new computer would be easier to take with me to clases and I could record the Professors lectures and replay them as needed. If it does have an 18 hour battery, it would really be a big improvement over the 3 hours I get unplugged now. This computer would definately be a welcome relief from the weight of the one I have now, but I can't afford to buy a new one on my own.

Meg had given us many yrs of entertainment and made us laugh and cry. she is a great actress, the way she decorates her house is her business not ours. why are we all so ready to judge someone else as if we sit on top of a mountain, she looks like she is very lonely words of praise would go a long way,,,what is happening to us all we do is put others down or make fun of them....look in your own closet......
