Lord and Lady Attenborough To Sell Off Collection

attenborough art
Lord and Lady Attenborough are the latest luminaries to sell off their treasures. The talented pair are selling off a collection of 50 works of art including paintings by top British artists such as LS Lowry, Barbara Hepworth, Ben Nicholson, Henry Moore and Graham Sutherland. The paintings will be sold at Sotheby's London on November 11. This is a beloved and personal collection and many of the paintings have stories behind them and direct connections with the artists. Thorn Head, by Graham Sutherland shown above, has been lent to many exhibitions around the world. Lord Attenborough first bought the work in the 1940s and then sold it in the late 1970s to help finance his film Gandhi. He bought it back in 1985. For more stories on selected works check out Michael Attenborough's interview with his father about his collection in the London Times.
