Win A Copy Of The Private World of Yves Saint Laurent & Pierre Bergé
It's not often that personal taste can be described as exquisite, it denotes a rare confluence of means and sensibility. But there's really no other word that describe the homes put together by late fashion designer Yves Saint Laurent and his partner Pierre Bergé quite so well. A new book, The Private World of Yves Saint Laurent and Pierre Bergé has come out from Vendome Press. The book by Robert Murphy with photography by Ivan Terestchenko is a sumptuous exploration of Saint Laurent and Bergé's multiple homes and expansive collections. If you've seen some of pieces from the collection which were sold by Christie's for record-breaking sums earlier this year then this is a chance to view the items in situ as they were used by Saint Laurent and Bergé. This is the sort of gorgeous coffee table book (280 pages, 11" x 12 1/4") that inspires dreams. We can't all afford the items that they did but the style, the way or arranging things and of pulling in various objects from different time periods and styles is something anyone can adopt.
Vendome Press was kind enough to send me a copy and I'm giving it away to one lucky reader. To enter leave a comment describing one of your most prized objects.

My most prized possession is my Hugo Boss Coat. A friend and I were at the Hugo boss store when I first tried it on, and I remember thinking that, this is the best looking and fitting piece of clothing Ive ever had. It made me feel great, like a million bucks. I had to have it until I saw the price tag. $900. But Ive never wanted something so much, and when I would wear it it made me feel great. It took a month a work, but I got it.

My first Mont Blanc pen. My lucky pen. Wrote a million dollar idea with that pen, and signed the million dollar check it yielded with it.

My most prized possession is my freedom to be creative whenever and wherever... Materialistically, I'd say my 200+ year old antique books :).

While I personally prefer a more modest room, the picture cover is enough to make me want to see more. Exquisite indeed!

My most prized possession is probably the bear I was given as a newborn that is still in fantastic condition- thanks mom : ) It just reminds me of my family and makes me feel connected even though I don't live close to them anymore.

My most prized possession is a photo-book thats been passing through my family for generations. It starts with a few metal backed photos from the civil war and goes through to today (we've been adding pages, and it's now getting a little ungainly)

I recently posted my tribute to YSL on my blog about his overall creative work in designing an entire outfit which included hat, jewelry, bags & shoes. Since I design jewelry I posted some of his sketches which included jewelry and in detail descriptions of how they should be worn. I also posted photos of some of my favorite ensembles he created and explained how the jewelry complimented the patterns of the clothes. YSL, a true genius, his work lives on forever.

A Toughton & Sims Platina sextant from the late 1700's. It's so intricate and beautiful with dozens of moving parts; everybody is intrigued. Where I got it is the real story. A newspaper writer lived on a yacht on the Thames during WWII. This sextant came with. He mentioned a number of famous previous owners of this yacht. Thirty years later, he generously sold it to me. It adds an historical/masculine/curious element to my library, and is my favorite thing.

One of my most prized possessions is a proof coin I bought from the Mint. Not because it's super-rare or anything, but because it was something I bought as a grad student and it was a challenge to save up for it. Showed me I has some discipline.
Oh, and it's pretty.
