Trumpy Yachts Returns with Two New Commissions

In its day, Trumpy was the biggest name in yacht-building. John Trumpy & Sons was responsible for crafting wooden yachts for such notable clients as the DuPonts, the Guggenheims, Howard Hughes and even the White House, with the U.S.S. Sequoia. All in all, Trumpy produced some 450 vessels from the 1900's through 1974, when the shipyard closed up shop. Now they're back again, rebranded as Trumpy Yachts, with two new yachts for the same owner.
Alex Suarez says he was enamored with the original Trumpy yachts, but wanted something with modern ammenities. So the revitalized Trumpy is building him a 125-foot motor yacht and a 138-foot sailboat that embody the classic design and construction methods of the originals with all the contemporary accoutrements he could ask for: the motor yacht has a smoke stack that opens into a jacuzzi tub and sun deck, wine cellars, full-beam staterooms and even a helipad. Its sailing fleet-mate, meanwhile, has tender compartments that can be flooded to create saltwater swimming pools right onboard. Jealous? You can have a piece of the action, too: Suarez is setting up Classic Yacht Partners to offer fractional ownership in both vessels. But if you're not interested in sharing, Trumpy already has a whole range of designs on offer. For the right price, of course.
