New York City's Skinniest House On The Market

New York City has some unusual real estate but this home requires residents without any fear of claustrophobia. New York City's skinniest townhouse at 75.5 Bedford Street in West Village recently went up for sale. With a width of 98 inches (a bit over eight feet), this home requires a bit of a deft hand with decorating (no giant couches please).
The three-bedroom home was built in 1873 tucked in between 75 and 77 Bedford St. The home is 990 square feet spread out over three stories. The landmark has been home to anthropologist Margaret Mead and poet Edna St. Vincent Millay. The home has been renovated with a garret skylight and oversized windows to offer plenty of natural light that ameliorates the cramped feeling a little. The current owner bought the home in 2000 for $1.6 million and it is back on the market for $2.75 million.

According to Real Estalker, there's also a basement that can be accessed by pulling up a panel in the kitchen. Secret rooms - hell, secret floors. I love it!

I wonder if this house, being so narrow, would have a residential elevator. In recent years, such an elevator was developed, having all hoisting gear on the top of the car. No basement machine room. No over the shaft or "penthouse" machine spaces needed. Developed by Otis. Check www.otis.com.
