Emeril Lagasse in New York, Estate of the Day

Is celebrity chef Emeril Lagasse moving in New York to get a bigger kitchen? The NY Post's Gimme Shelter column reports that Lagasse has just closed on an Upper East Side townhouse for around $11.5 million. His new home is a 6,900-square-foot, six-story building on East 61st Street which was recently renovated. It has two terraces, six fireplaces and a chef's kitchen. The home was originally listed last May for $14.9 million.
Lagasse's former New York City home has a more modest although still impressive kitchen. He has put his loft condo at the Beekman Regent building on East 51st Street on the market. The apartment, which is more than 4,000 square feet, is listed for $5.995 million with Nancy Candib of Brown Harris Stevens. Two adjacent apartments on the third floor were combined to make this spread which as a great room consisting of a large living room, formal dining room area and a chef's kitchen Adjacent to the great room there is a bedroom which could be used as a library-media room. There are two large master bedroom suites, and another couple of bedrooms. Because the home was once two apartments there are two kitchens and the listing says the smaller one could be used as a wet bar or large laundry room.

All I can say is: GOD BLESS AMERICA! Anyone who bath-mouths her is a disgrace!

Wow.....sounds like Emeril's pockets got fat along with his belly & face & neck & chin.....

Emeril deserves the best kitchen possible.....but I don't think he found it with this new place. Even my sis-in-law has twice the kitchen (2 fridges, 2 stoves, 2 dishwashers, 2 sinks and a huge butler's pantry. Best of all I know she didn't pay $11 M and has a perfect view of the Chessapeak bay

Emeril's fat belly, you say? I would never trust a skinny cook/chef. They might skimp on the butter. The man can cook. I wish he'd come cook for me. Yum! What a beautiful kitchen!

I knew Emeril when he was living in Fall River, MA and had nothing. He has earned what he has and has been very good to his family. I have had the pleasure of having him cook for me in several occassions in New Orleans. His food is as fabulous as it looks and he is as hospitable as he can be. Glad I don;t get to his restaurants to often or I would be a very large woman.

I love watching Emeril cook, however I am such a picky eatter I doubt I would eat most of the things he cooks. I am no millionaire lol not even a thousandaire. I can think of a lot of good things to do with 11 million and that apartment isn't one of them.

Proof positive if you can "COOK" you don't need a large kitchen or double appliances. Emeril earned his home by teaching millions to cook, the joy and enjoyment of cooking and the appreciation of the delicious diversity of food. His kitchen probable didn't cost half of what a lot of kitchens cost on HGTV's Designers Challenge (i.e., one cost $175,000). The kitchen is beautiful and functional. NO crystal chandelier, the only reason for a crystal chandelier in the kitchen is to impress the expensive caterer. It assures them they should add and additional $1000 because they have to tip toe around the kitchen. Best Wishes Emeril & Bam.

Have to agree w/ "JD". The man has worked hard throughout his life and deserves to live the way HE wants to - regardless of the way he chooses to spend HIS money.
Why can't people in general applaud someone for doing well instead of being jealous and resort to name calling on a physical basis? (i.e.: After Katrina he has consistently advocated for New Orleans.)
Yes, while watching his shows he seems like a humble, hospitable man. Now that is the type of man we should applaud. So ~ CONGRATULATIONS EMERIL on the beautiful new home!!!
