Oprah Winfrey Sued For Over A Trillion Dollars
Poet Lloyd Goffe has filed one of the most outrageous lawsuits I've seen in a while. He's suing Oprah Winfrey for $1 trillion. He says that Oprah plagarized portions of his book "A Tome of Poetry" and repackaged a poem called "Pieces of My Soul" and published it under her name. The lawsuit alleges that Oprah confessed to doing this in April 2008. Goffe says that since Oprah sold more than 650 million copies of her work online at a $20 each she therefore owes $1.2 trillion. The Cleveland Leader has the rather ridiculous documents.[Thanks, Ben!]

Why is this "outrageous" or "ridiculous"? While the amount of the lawsuit may seem high, if the allegations are true, I hope the original artist is appropriately compensated. Oprah and her companies should be good for the money.

650 million people bought these poems for $20 online? I find that to be the outrageous part considering the population of America is about 300 million. Someone is fibbing.

this guy hasn't even picked up a piece of paper and a pencil. My little brother in the 3rd grade could even tell that 650,000,000 x 20 doesn't even EQUAL A TRILLION!!! ITS 13 BILLION. f*ckin dumbass....

I also doubt that many copies were sold. And the math behind this is also funny. What I like most though is the picture you chose to use. Oprah laughing in the guy's face is what it says to me. I love it.

INESE - you'd be surprised at the fact that there are indeed many people out there earning in excess of $1 billion per year. Check out some of the hedge fund managers, for example. James Simons for example, a true genius who runs a hedge fund called Renaissance Technologies, took home a salary of $2.5 billion last year. Here's the top 5 hedgies from Alpha Magazine:
1. James Simons, Renaissance Technologies Corp. $2.5 billion
2. John Paulson, Paulson & Co. $2 billion
3. John Arnold, Centaurus Energy $1.5 billion
4. George Soros, Soros Fund Management $1.1 billion
5. Raymond Dalio, Bridgewater Associates $780 million
Anyway, getting back to the topic - the silly thing about this lawsuit, other than the plaintiff's flawed math, is the fact that there are no trillionaires in the world yet. If this even makes it into a courtroom, the judge should immediately hold Mr. Goffe in contempt for wasting the valuable time and resources of the US legal system.
