Grey Goose Vodka's Flavors of Summer

Grey Goose, the super-premium vodka blended and bottled in the celebrated Cognac region of Western France, has created some succulent summer cocktails starring its classic spirit (above left) and fresh, evocative flavors: Grey Goose La Poire (center left), L'Orange (center right) and Le Citron (right). While each is excellent served on the rocks with a slice of the fruit used to make it, these artful concoctions are designed to be enjoyed poolside or at summer gatherings. Read on for recipes:
Le Citron Caipiroska
1 1/4 parts Grey Goose Le Citron
1 lime cut into eighths
1 part simple syrup or 1 tsp sugar
club soda or water
In a glass shaker, combine the lime and simple syrup and muddle well. Add the vodka and fill with ice. Shake well. Pour ice and all ingredients into a rocks glass. Top off with more ice if necessary and a splash of club soda or water. Garnish with lime wedge.
Grey Goose Heather 81
2 parts Grey Goose Vodka
3/4 parts honey
1/2 part hot water
6 mint leaves, plus more mint leaves for garnish
1/2 part Drambuie
In a cocktail shaker combine honey, hot water and 6 mint leaves and muddle well. Add ice, vodka and Drambuie. Shake well and strain into rocks glass filled with ice. Garnish with mint leaves and piece of honeycomb.
Cucumber Fizz
1 1/2 parts Grey Goose La Poire
1/2 part St. Germain Elderflower Liqueur
2 parts juiced cucumber
1/2 part lemon juice
1/2 part simple syrup
lemonade or club soda
In a cocktail shaker, mix all ingredients. Shake vigorously and double strain. Serve in a highball glass with cubed ice and garnish with mint, cucumber slices and lemon zest. Top with lemonade or club soda.
Beach Bum
2 parts Grey Goose La Poire
crushed ice
1/2 part Cointreau
1 part fresh lime juice
1/2 part Maraschino Liqueur
dash of grenadine
Fill a cocktail shaker with ice and add all ingredients. Shake well and strain into rocks glass filled with crushed ice. Top with grenadine and garnish with fresh mint.
Mango Collins
1 1/2 parts Grey Goose Vodka
1/2 part Mandarine Napoleon Liqueur
3 parts mango nectar
1 part fresh lemon juice
club soda
Fill a cocktail shaker filled with ice and add all ingredients except club soda. Shake well until the outside of the shaker is frosty and beaded with condensation. Strain into highball glass filled with ice. Top off with club soda and garnish with mango.
Kiwi Fizz
2 parts Grey Goose Le Citron
1 kiwi fruit peeled and quartered
1 sprig of mint
1" piece of vanilla pod
1 part simple syrup
splash of club soda
In a cocktail shaker combine quartered kiwi, mint, vanilla pod, and simple syrup and muddle well. Add Le Citron and ice. Shake well until the outside of the shaker is frosted and beaded with condensation. Double strain into a large wine glass filled with ice and top with club soda. Garnish with kiwi slice.

So, I usually make my martinis with Three Olives vodka, but we were out yesterday afternoon, so I used Grey Goose instead. Sorry to say, I wasn't impressed.

Having been a bartender for 20+ years, I can attest to Zach's comment about Grey Goose being subpar. Its fancy bottle (and subsequently high pricing) distracts the consumer from the mediocre contents inside. I remember reading a New York Times article about a blind taste test of 20+ top vodkas - Grey Goose placed near the very bottom. The winner? Smirnoff, a vodka which prides itself on substance over style, and a heritage that transformed the cocktail revolution. My father, also a bartender, passed along colorful stories to me regarding Smirnoff, so it holds a special place in my heart (and mouth). Nonetheless, I challenge you to find a better quality vodka for the price that it sells for.

Have you tried the Karlsson's GOLD vodka; virgin new potato vodka from cape Bjare, Sweden. The guys who came up with Absoult have launch a really great product!
