Aspen Home Sells For $43 Million, Sets 2009 Record
We keep hearing about how bad the real estate market is and chronicling the many price drops but recently a home sold for $43 million and it wasn't even on the market. The ten-bedroom mansion in Aspen, Colorado is on 4.5 acres at the base of Red Mountain and sold through Joshua &Co. The 21,400-square-foot home has become what brokers say is the most expensive home that has sold in the U.S. so far this year. The Wall Street Journal shows the home which was designed by Charles Cunniffe Architects. There are a host of pictures of the home on the Cunniffe website (the kitchen is particularly worthy of note). The wood, glass and stone home on 4.5 acres was built in 2006. It has an outdoor pool, guest house and a four-car garage. Inside the home, windows frame mountain views from the living areas and private spaces. It has an elevator, wine cellar, home theater and 10 bedrooms.
Newton Bartley, a real estate agent with Joshua & Co. referred to the sale as a "straight, cash deal." The Aspen Times says that the buyer, who has not been named, became interested in the home at the end of the last ski season. Several Aspen homes on the market are priced higher than this one including Elk Song Ranch which is listed at $58 million and is shown below.

Hear ACORN was in the running, Obama was thinking of it for his little get away home, paying with it of course with bail out money from the tax payer.

Just one more (of the too many recently) example of nauseatingly obsessive EXCESS. People with too much $$$ on their hands, made off the backs of the working class, with nothing to do with it but buy pretentious resource depleting 25,000 sq. foot homes. All footed and rubber stamped by us, the taxpayer. Nice eh??
Lorraine Jul 16th 2009 11:22AM
Tom,
I couldn't agree with you more. People are struggling to keep up with their mortgage payments and put food on the table and someone buys a #43 million home in this economy.. Some can say they worked hard to earn those millions but you know what, so were born into it. And if you worked hard for it, how about realizing how blessed you are and give so back to those who made you wealthy.

Maybe you should move to a communist country where the government takes all your ea"too much" money if we can. AND we can actually decide what we do with our earnings here. Me thinks you belong somewhere else where other people decide everything for you.
hillsamurai Jul 16th 2009 11:12AM
Just think of how many other ways that money could have been used. There are so many people who work for a living and struggle to make ends meet that could have been help with the money that was spent for a house that he will probably only live in during ski season. This person needs to be audited by the IRS. I better that he does not even pay taxes.

JUST FACE IT THEY ARE SMARTER THAN YOU!

It's there MONEY. Get over it, get off your Ass and get a job.
jwallstrom Jul 16th 2009 11:56AM
It was bought by Al Gore using carbon credits, so don't worry about its carbon footprint. He will get there in his solar jet.

Dick Cheney bought that house by using the 8 billion dollars that Haliburton Corporation "lost" in Iraq a few years ago.
I hear that Haliburton employees are buying second homes like you won't believe in the Wyoming/Colorado area.
The Bush Administration never followed up on where that "lost" 8 billion ended up.

WHOA!!! Which country is this??? Aren't we the Capitalistic country that you can keep what you earn, and have the opportunity to earn as much as you want???? And spend your money as you want???
Maybe Tom and Lorraine should move to a Communist Country where they Tell you where to work, take all your money, and distribute as the "Government" sees fit.
Good luck with that. Why don't you go to work and make sure you sign off every check to the IRS. They will be much more able to decide how your $$ will be spent.

Its their money. I can't imagine how they got that kind of money though. They basically paid $ 2,000.00 per sqr foot for this house. Most houses are between $100-$300 per sqr foot. Its their money, no matter how pretentious they are.

What makes all of you all assume an American bought it?
Karil Ballata Jul 16th 2009 12:49PM
WYOMAN> See, i totally agree with you. I just don't get why people think that those that are wealthy owe anybody any part of their fortune. Nobody makes anybody wealthy. You make yourself wealthy. Be inovative and come up with
something to earn it yourself.

Wow I was wondering myself what country we were living in. Unless these guys put a gun to the heads of others ....its their money and they can do whatever with it..by the way, it took "working class" to build that house you nitwits so "working class got paid on that deal too. Just like it takes the "working class" to build the expensive cars and yachts and planes that these guys buy. Guess what happens if they dont buy them??? The "working class" wont have jobs building them!

It's not ACORN anymore, it's COIN, they changed their name. All the bad publicity and the FBI investigations, they changed it to community something or other. The former funeral home in New Orleans where their housed has two hundred and some odd other oranizations, it's all a murky, money making mess. Fox has been investigating it for some time, especially Glenn Beck. So yeah, maybe COIN ACORN) did buy it, since Obama gave ACORN 5.2 billion dollars from the stimulus package, they can afford it.
masroland64 Jul 16th 2009 1:18PM
I'm happy there are working people who can afford this kind of house after all that's what America is all about it called Capitalism.....working to get your dream! NOT A GOVERNMENT HAND OUT!! God knows he won't be able to afford anything once Obama's new health plan goes into effect....probably would have paid out half in taxes....so why not splurge while you can...get rid of or hide it or the government will take it!
Kevin Jul 16th 2009 1:37PM
I think Kate got it in the divorce!
Kevin Jul 16th 2009 1:24PM
You're absolutely right, that's how Bernie did it!
