Harry Winston Ocean GMT Traveler Watch

The watch is available in 18k rose or white gold in a 45mm wide case. There are versions with and without diamonds with a total of six limited edition variants of between 80 to 15 pieces per model (total of 200 for the line). The watch features an automatic tourbillon movement with the tourbillon cage serving as the seconds hand for the watch located at 6 o'clock. Detail rich, the Ocean GMT Traveler is a pure Harry Winston, combining style and function with a distinct emphasis on luxury that is easy to live with. The fitted strap is alligator and the dial enjoys Cotes de Geneve polishing that is something typically reserved for decoration on watch movements. Price will no doubt be in excess of $50,000 most likely, of course more for the diamond covered varieties.

I guess I'm being snobish but I've always looked down on those fashion / jewelry houses trying to get inside the watch industry. Yet I must admit that among all of those brands trying to get some credit HW is the one i admire the most for a single reason : granted they are operating on the high end spectrum of the industry but they dont limit innovative thoughts to the appearance only. Even if I had the money I'm not sure i'd buy one of their opus model but I still find those very cool.
As for this particular model I personaly find the GMT the most usefull complication of them all. All my daily beaters have / had this one !
By the way Ariel, have u ever consider writing a post about all the brands (HR, Tiffany, Bulgary, LV, Channel, Dior and the list goes on...) which either dont have a "horlogical heritage" or whose core business isnt watch making ? Txs for the post, best.

Thanks for the thoughts. The first thing that any "new" watch brand will tell you is that the older brands have history yes, but history has to start somewhere. There is something to be said about having lots of skill in doing something for a long time, but I like to give new makers of luxury watches the benefit of the doubt until I realize otherwise. In other words, anyone has the capacity to design a nice watch, and some of these "fashion" brands are able to bring something fresh and unique to the table much of the time.
I do write about those brands you mentioned relatively often - but they don't release watches as often as dedicated watch brands (Tiffany & Co as well as LV and Chanel have maybe a handful of timepieces a year - if that). If there are any models you'd like for me to discuss I will be happy to. Take care.
