Oprah & Tom Cruise's Luxury Stationer Shuts Down

Stationer Mrs. John L. Strong, one of the world's leading boutique luxury brands whose customers included Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes, Vogue editor Anna Wintour, Oprah Winfrey and the Duke and Duchess of Windsor, is shutting down after 80 years. The company has decided to close its Madison Avenue atelier, its boutiques, web site, catalog, wholesale and corporate businesses due to the recession, the Times reports.
Nannette Brown, the company's chief executive and creative director, said that an inability "to finance the business's expansion plans combined with a challenging retail and economic environment, left the company with no alternative but to close." Efforts to sell the company also failed. "This is a sad day for Mrs. John L. Strong," Brown said in a statement, "and a sad day for luxury as the world has become increasingly bereft of unique, hand-finished products." Indeed.

Oh!! Since this was about Opraw, and it being a FAVORITE place, I thought it was about "FAT HARRY'S ALL YOU CAN EAT BUFFET" Restaurant -- where "We don't use forks, we use SHOVELS" is the theme. I know it's the pudgy one's favorite hang out. (For you idiots who believe that her FATNESS is from thyroid -- I have a bridge that I want to sell you; call me.)

if oprah and tommy boy are so concern about their favorite store going out of business they should give up some of their money and buy the store themseleves. they and the other famous people like them can afford, so they can all keep on schedule and know what to do each day of their busy lives. better yet there's always office depot or staples, were us real people go to get our office supplies and etc. etc.

Leo says to "stop the childish blame game," yet all he did in is comment was blame the Bush Administration for everything. Its so typical of the hypocritical left. They are mental midgets.

I still can not believe those who are still so in love with Obama. Yes, Bush left a deficit, but does that justify Obama running up trillions more??? Economists agree - you can not BUY your way out of a recession. He is going to lay the price tag for bailing out the banks and the car industry and cap & trade and socialized medicine (Yes - that is what goverment run health care actually is) on the backs of the American taxpayers and we are all going to be in the soup kitchen lines!!!!!!!! I just do not understand how those who scream about the state of the economy under Bush are so excited about what Obama is doing to it now!?! He has thrown money all around and nothing is changing or getting any better. Factories are still closing, banks are still not lending, interest on credit cards is going up etc........ Need to re-think your grand plan before it sinks even further. But to tell you the truth I think that has been the grand scheme all along so we are even more beholden to our wonderful government. We need to stop it all now BEFORE Obama reads Chavez's book and decides that he actually likes and agrees with what it says. He is in way, way over his head. God Help us all!!!!!!

I would love to have some nice stationery since I like to write snail-mail letters, but I guess places like this don't have "Going Out of Business" sales, huh?

I love to write and have kept in touch w/people for many many years (since I was little) and I've been in High-End paper/Stationer stores; felt the papers and turned the pages in Journals. I could not financially "afford" the stuff they offered then and I still can't, so this doesn't affect me. My local stationery store is still in Buis and I'm thankful. I know how difficult it is to get used to something that you've had for years and then have it taken away. Those of us who are paper freaks understand that quality is of the greatest importance, as well, but...Oh Well!
joel May 27th 2009 10:23PM
Are you telling us Oprah will have to go to Office depot . LMAO on that one .
John May 27th 2009 11:07PM
Maybe Oprah would have kept buying the paper if it had a double cheeseburger inside?
