Bumble Bells - Celebs Splurge on their Babies
Celebrities like Jessica Alba (right, with baby girl Honor Marie Warren), Courteney Cox Arquette, and even Gwen Stefani have been adorning their babies' ankles with this summer's hot accessory for kids -- Bumble Bells.Bumble Bells are not just tiny, adorable, audible anklets. They began with a future mom who went to Thailand:
"It all started when Mommy took a trip to Thailand. She saw a little boy toddling around in beautiful silver anklets with tiny bells on them. Everywhere he went, his parents could hear him toddling. And that sweet sound of his bumbling footsteps made Mommy swear that when she had a baby, she would procure herself a pair of those adorable anklets."
The tiny anklets are ASTM-certified for safety, and can be worn all day and even to bed at night. The bells run from $45 (sterling silver) to $575 for the Eden Bells, Twinkle Bells, and Sea Shell Bells in gold (see gallery). You can even get a grownup-sized anklet for $97. A portion of all profits goes to Head Start. We like that.

You know, these things have been around the States for years, maybe even decades! AND, they come with even more bells, or more elaborate bells, or in gold. All you have to do is go to some cultural stores out in the city.
These are not new.

I purchased two, gold bangles with bells from an Asian jewellery store years ago. This is absolutely nothing new.

When I was a toddler about 60 years ago, my mother put bells on my shoes by threading them into my shoelaces.

Big deal. What baby boomer didn't have bells on their shoes as babies?? My first son was born in 1979 and he had bells on his shoes as well. I think, given the economy, most of us can live without putting $45-$575 bells on our kids feet. The age of frivilous spending is OVER ... whether or not you have the bucks.

My mom used to lace bells through my shoelaces - wow - nothing new! Just more ways for celebs to waste their money on crap. And... what if an adorable little bell comes off and cute celeb baby chokes? How cute is that now? (And WHY does that woman refer to herself in the 3rd person as "Mommy"???? ugh!!!!)

Ridiculous. I threaded bells in my childrens' shoelaces in the 1970s--at a cost of probably 2 bucks. They're great to keep up with a toddler, but the $500 price tag is crazy. That turns it into a silly status symbol.
