Mrs. Obama's Lanvin Sneakers

Michelle Obama's fashion choices continue to raise eyebrows. Even her sneakers aren't safe. Michelle Obama and Jill Biden pitched in at a Feeding America event. Mrs. Obama wore a casual sweater, capri pants and a pair of shiny suede and pink metallic sneakers from Lanvin. It turns out that the sneakers with grosgrain ribbon laces cost $540 and this has tongues clucking. The NY Daily News reports that the kicks, which come in denim and satin versions have been selling well all season. Given that Mrs. Obama often wears shoes by Jimmy Choo and other expensive designers, it's not clear why the sneakers are so provocative. Is it because they are casual footwear? Given the controversy perhaps next tiime she'll head to J.Crew for the sneakers too, the most expensive pink Jack Purcell pair sells for $195.

it's amazing how whites still can't accept that some of us blacks actually have money, and some, actually lots of it! if mrs. mccain was at the same event, i shudder to think what grossly expensive gear should would have on .. and i highly doubt that the people at the event are calculating the cost of her sneakers when they have more pressing issues to consider - she is dressing according to her style and her allotted finances .. so be it - i certainly don't ever apologize for the luxurious i have .. get used to it, the ugly sneakers and all, you'll be seeing them for the next eight years! GO O'sss

mrs. mccain's money came from a business that her family started in 1955 that now employs 650 people with annual revenue of $340M... mrs. obama - and her husband - have lived in the public sector their whole lives... if anyone deserves to wear $540 sneakers, i'm going to go with the one who paid for them with dollars that were earned thru building a longstanding and profitable business - black OR white...

Mrs. Obama is on the high end of the scale and why should she not wear $540 sneakers? Her actions are speaking for itself. She is helping to feed America!! The average American will spend $150 on a pair of Jordans etc and that is with salaries starting at 20k plus. She is the wife of the President of the United States! I am sure that she does not have five and six pair of these sneakers in her closet. The is at an event standing on her feet to help AMERICA! When you go on vacation or will be on your feet don't you buy the pricey walking shoes/sneakers???? She has the money to buy the darn sneakers and pay her bills. When any one gets a raise or gets a few extra dollars in their pockets they buy something expensive because it is now or never or just for the fact that you deserve it. Now if your lights get turned off next week then you made the wrong decision to splurge.
Mrs Obama is busting her butt and looking good doing it and if you needed a dollar she would give it to you!! She is SHOWING America she is a team player with or without the sneakers. Look in your closet of sneakers add them up or just think about how much you paid for the hottest kicks.... She is grown doing the darn thang.

To be honest, I wish they were an american brand. A pair of metallic "made in China" Converse would have been just as cute with her outfit.
You know that what she really wanted were the really pricey $840.00 Lanvin high tops (check Barney's New York to see a pair) but I think the $540.00 Lanvin low top was more thrifty, so she wore the low gray sock to give a "high top" look. So she is being cost conscious.
I honestly have these Lanvin sneakers in black patent toe and suede. Paid around $500.00 last season 'cause they were the hottest sneaker at Barney's and designed by Arthur Elbaz.
Everything thinks they are Converse that cost $50.00. Oh well.
It's LANVIN, pronounced LAN - VAN (French), not prounonced"Lan-vyn" just in case anyone wonders.
