Passchal Hobo, Handbag of the Day
The Passchal Hobo is a luxurious option for the eco-conscious.Passchal is an unusually inventive design house; they make all their handbags from recycled tractor inner tubes. Before you turn up your nose, be sure and have a look at their collection, which has been seen on In Treatment's Blair Underwood, Heroes' James Kyson Lee, and 90210's AnnaLynne McCord (the Passchal Hobo, right).
This classic, 15" x 12" x 4" hobo weighs just 1.75 pounds and features Italian nickel hardware, a solid canvas lining with inside zipper pockets, a magnetic closure, a distressed leather strap and details, and, naturally, tractor inner tubes as the main body of the purse.
The designers are Ken Kobrick, an ex-welder, and inventor Angela Greene.
"In keeping with their eco-friendly beliefs, all leathers used are by-products, vegetable dyed, and chrome free, and all bags are handcrafted using the highest quality hardware and materials available. The inner tubes are collected in VA, OH and GA, and undergo a rigorous but environmentally friendly, multi-day cleaning process. To date, Passchal has recycled approximately 26 tons of inner tubes!"

Another special feature? As with several of the bags, the Passchal Hobo includes a "light system;" a little switch inside the bag which turns on a light for when you're digging in the dark! It seems they've thought of everything. We first spotted Passchal at the BagTrends Green Arm Candy Party in NYC, and we took this picture of the light system:

The Passchal Hobo is available in red (shown) and purple distressed leather from Passchal for $295.

Hey everyone,
I saw the article about going green and being more eco friendly which is great. I love the fact that so many more people are becoming greener and doing their bit to help the planet. I think with global warming creeping up on us, I think it is very important that we become more aware of trying to lower our carbon emissions, and try and do right by the planet. I think we can all do our little bit extra to try and help! At home I always shut the computer down rather than putting it to sleep, and always turn off electrics rather than leave them on stand by. These tips may seem small, but if everyone pulled together then I think we could really make a difference to the world. Another hint I have is that I now use e-Cards rather than buying paper cards. Not only are you saving money if you choose a free site, but more importantly, you are helping the environment by saving paper, and therefore less trees need to be chopped down! I have done my research and finally found the best free Environmentally Friendly e-Card site. It is really easy to use, which is great if like me you are not very good with computers! I really like this particular site as there is just so much choice. I know e-Cards are not for everyone but think of the environment it really is a great way to help out and do your bit! Kind Regards, Nic
