Stauer Watches for Men - A Small Splurge
Stauer has a collection of stunning and extremely affordable watches for men. At right is the truly unique 1930's Dashtronic Limited Edition Watch from Stauer. The watch is crafted in the 1930's "jumping mechanism" style, which, rather than incorporating hands, utilizes a window reminiscent of a dashboard or radio tuner to tell the time.
The watch features 3-ATM water resistance, 21-jewel automatic movement, stainless steel casing, and a black alligator embossed leather band.
This compelling watch is a very small splurge at just $99. If the 1930s isn't an era you'd care to think about right now, check out some of the other watches at Stauer -- our favorites, including a skeleton pocket watch for a steal are below:

They all look nice. Worried about reliability, however. Although at that price, if they last at least two years, you more than got your money's worth.
It's funny though, how, among all the $99 to $200 watches, they got two for over $10,000. As they say in Sesame Street, "One of these thing is not like the others"

I'd always been wary of Stauer watches in the past because they advertise in the back of Popular Science along side ads like "Six-Pack Abs Tomorrow!!!" and "Run Your Car on Water!!!" Perhaps I'll give them another look.

I was interested in the Dashtronic awhile back until I read a review claiming the lettering is a decal, not engraved as it appears to be in the advertising photos.

Despite the ad copy about European workmanship and hand crafting, "Stauer 1930" watches are made by the container load in Chinese factories right alongside the other cheap mechanical watches found on eBay for $50 and less.

I have owned a Stauer watch ( the "Graves" ) for over a year and it has worked flawlessly. I own more watches than I need and this has been one of the very best. It is also the best value in a watch that I have ever bought. I never wind it, and never set it except when daylight saving time changes to standard. I don't know where the adverse commentary seen above is coming from and would disregard it. If mine gets lost or stolen I will be very quick to replace it.
