Chef Who Trashed Enzo Gets 10 Weeks in Jail

The angry British chef who trashed Jamiroquai frontman Jay Kay's Ferrari Enzo (above) at a seaside resort last month has been sentenced to 10 weeks in jail for causing £9,434 worth of damage to the $1.4 million supercar. Aaron Billington told the judge he went ballistic and hurled rocks at the rock star's Enzo after Kay, who had mocked the chef's stutter, invited two girls back to his hotel room for an orgy following a bout of drinking.
Billington's lawyer said the chef flew off the handle because he had an "emotional attachment" to one of the women in question, the UK Daily Star reports. "The criminal damage may have been committed in drink, but the car was plainly someone's pride and joy," the judge observed in passing sentence. "You wouldn't have a car like that otherwise." Next time try trashing a Toyota, pal - it's cheaper all around.

I really don't like the judge's reasoning here, for two reasons. First, it implies that trashing a car which is not the apple of its owner's eye is somehow less reprehensible. Property is property. I don't care how much I hate my Civic, if someone trashes it the court better damn well make them pay.
Second, it implies a direct correlation between the money spent on an object and the emotional worth to its purchaser. Which is absurd, even in the case of a massively expensive and rare car.
Sounds like the judge is either a gearhead or a serious Jamiroquai fan. I'll go with gearhed.

I was about to make the same comment.Sounds like this judge needs to be removed, horrible statement for him of all people to make.I drive an old 77' Chevy and I'd be really pissed if someone trashed it out of spite.

Wow, talking about a story summarizing your life of decadence and excess.
"My Ferrari Enzo was vandalized after I invited two girls back to my hotel room for an orgy after an evening of drinking."

How extraordinarily disappointing in that it seems Jay Kay really has no belief in the lifestyle he preached through the music of Jamiroquai.
