Last year we first heard that Queen of England w
as private jet shopping. But now
The Sun says that the Queen won't be picking up her own 12-seat plane after all. The global economic crunch is being blamed. The Royal Family was to take possession of the jet this year but Armed Forces Minister Bob Ainsworth has announced that the Royal Family will fly on RAF planes until April of next year. This is the second time the Queen has missed out on getting her own plane, Prime Minister Gordon Brown already canceled a plan to buy three private aircraft for the government which would have been used by the Royal Family as well.

This "royal family" crap has got to stop.
Money made from taxing generations of wankers because they would cut off your head if you revolted.

The "royal jet" isn't very practical. For overseas heads of state visits The Queen needs a full size jet (usually at least a Airbus 319 to Boeing 777 size). For the couple of times a year that she conducts those visits it is much cheaper to lease.

The princes and princess usually fly commercial to a location (Singapore, Miami, Sao Paolo, Dubai, Guatemala, Jamaica) and they charter a jet on location.
------------
Since the RAF jets are over 25 years old now, and will eventually need to be replaced, It would be nice to see them lease a sexy P180 Avanti II (Ferrari designed) turboprop for domestic flights and short hops to northern Europe. They may not be roomy like the RAF jet, but they go 400 mph and show a lot more concern about the environment (Charles is accused of hypocritical behaviour here). Heck, it's only 400 miles from London to Balmoral Castle, and that is the longest domestic trip they take.
