The Montalban House, Estate of the Day
The home belonging to the late Ricardo Montalban has hit the market. The Real Estalker reports that the home in the Los Angeles Bird Streets area is now for sale. The Montalban House was designed by architect Ricardio Legorreta and sits high up in the hills. The angular homes is a series of cubes arranged for maximum view potential. There's lots to love here including tile floors, wide terraces and big windows. The water features are interesting too. A thin swimming pool runs along the side of the house next to a terrace and reaches its end in a blue-tiled square. Certainly there are dated elements of the house such as the mirrored wall in the dining room but whoever buys it is getting a treasure with solid bones. The only thing I think might bother some potential buyers is the long flat ceilings but it's hard to know without being in the house how the space really feels. It is listed at $20 million and the property website is here. Some of the Real Estalker's commenters seem to think that it is a bit high. I'm guessing that it will probably get a $5 million price cut relatively soon.Experience more lush living in luxury homes and mansions or see the stars living large with celebrity homes galleries at AOL Real Estate.

Dated for sure, but lovely. This house has potential with that view and solid architectural elements.

It reminds me of an ancient Incan Temple. It's rather cold looking right now; but with some imagination it could be a stunning showplace. It would not have to cluttered to atain more warmth; I would like to see more bright color & chandeliers. Murals & artwork.
I do admit to a fondness for other styles of archectecture (Victorian & King Ludwig Follies!) & design but there is something haunting and magical here. It will probably be bought by somebody who enjoys minimalist, modern archetecture. Still, if a pagan-minded person, a New-Ager were to buy & decorate it would have unltd potential for a spectacular fantasy. I love the pools of water.
Because of home's location & my past experience of living in NM, I would be concerned about snakes! I would hope they plan on having Security-maintenance staff here 24-7 and good advice on living w/dangerous wildlife. It's not all that civilized in the hills around LA, BelleAir & the hollywood canyons.
