Eagle's Nest, Estate of the Day

Today's home is one of the luxury lodges in the Eagle's Nest enclave in Banner Elk, North Carolina. Why Eagle's Nest? A peek at the view gives an indication as to the name. This lodge home is part of a 1350-acre luxury camp perched in the Blue Ridge Mountains with stellar views. The community was envisioned as a luxury camp offering outdoor sports, an equestrian center, art studio, library and more for grown-up campers with money to spend.
Today's home is Lodge 24, a five-bedroom wood and stone retreat with exposed beams, a floor-to-ceiling fireplace and colored glass chandelier in the great room and a barrel-shaped wine cellar. The home has two master suites, two guest bedrooms, a gym, media room, and a gourmet kitchen which features a sexy river-like sink set into the wood counter. There are five fireplaces and multiple decks offering sweeping mountain views. This home is listed at $5.3 million.

Hiddeous. I mean, couldn't they found any logs of greater diameter? It'd be like living in a Lincoln Logs house. Have they not heard of human scale?

"Eagle's Nest", as in the name of Hitler's vacation home? I'm not sure if the house featured in Band of Brothers was intended to be the a realistic reproduction, but if memory serves this house even looks sort of similar (but it's been a long time since I saw it.)
Is this some sort of extremist white supremacist community?

It looks nothing like the original Berghof. Eagle's nest it the American name for Hitler's residence near Berchtesgaden, Germany.
I personally loved the Berghof with its gold plated elevator, although Hitler's personal style for interiors was very cold and in my opinion a little bland. The original was blown up a few years after. I think the only thing left was the foundation to a greenhouse.

I actually think that given the home's size, the logs are perfect to scale. The one exception would be the master bed. It looks more suited for Fred and Wilma Flintstone.

Sitting at over 5000 feet elevation, this home is one of the highest elevation homes east of the Mississippi and yes, it is spectacular. http://www.mountainsotheysrealty.com
