Art Exhibit Postponed Due To Lack Of Gold

one ton one kiloArtist Chris Burden's Saturday opening at the Gagosian Gallery in Beverly Hills for his new show "One Ton, One Kilo" has been postponed due to lack of gold. The latest exhibit from the performance artist required around 220 pounds, about $3.3 million worth of gold bars. According to a notice from the Gagosian gallery, 100 kilos of gold bricks were bought by Gagosian Gallery for the exhibit from Stanford Coins and Bullion, part of Stanford Financial Group, which is now in receivership. Gagosian's gold is frozen while the SEC investigates Stanford. A Gagosian spokeswoman told the LA Times that the gallery is working on getting the gold and hopes to open the exhibit within a week or two. Gawker had an interesting idea for a new piece of art: an empty room sans gold and displaying a notice from the government. A true statement on the current situation.
