Mohamed Hadid in Bel Air, Estate of the Day

At a time when even the Russians seem to be losing their fortunes is there really room on the Los Angeles real estate market? Well, we better make room because as the LA Times Hot Property column reported Ritz-Carlton developer Mohamed Hadid has listed his Bel-Air residence for a blistering $85 million. It's not the most expensive house in Los Angeles or the most expensive property in his listing agent's portfolio (both those honors go to Fleur de Lys in Holmby Hills still on the market at $125 million).
What do you get for your money? The home is on 2.2 acres of prime land that includes staff quarters over the garage, a garage big enough for two limos, a swan pond, rose gardens, an infinity pool, large spa, outdoor kitchen with a pizza oven, fireplaces and courtyard dining for 100 guests. The home itself has ten bedrooms and 48,000 square feet of space. Public rooms include a reception hall, formal living and dining rooms, an informal dining room, a family room with a bar lounge, a music room, a library, 5,000 bottle wine cellar and tasting room, a ballroom, commercial kitchen, screening room, game room and a Moroccan room. The main master bedroom suite including a sitting room, powder room, his and hers bathrooms and dressing rooms. Like many other fancy mansions, this one has its own name, Le Belvedere.

The architecture and the ornate decor of this home are simply amazing. This has to be one of my favorites homes of all time. I love the classic French feel of this home as well as all the imported high quality materials used throughout.

Looks better on the outside than the inside. It looks like someone ate a bunch of different styles and vomited all out in one gaudy and tasteless mansion.

So after many hours trying to figure out why this house looked so familiar, this was the mansion used on American Idol as the "Judge's Mansion"! Beautiful home and I'm sure the Idol appearance just added to the value(or I'm sure so they hoped!). It is gaudy, though the details are superb! I remember watching and thinking, who does cielings like that, did you see that molding etc.!

No restraint whatsoever. That, to my mind, is tacky and gaudy. There is so much to be said for understated elegance and true refinement.
