My thing is... why would you spend all this money on floors only to cover them up with a mat. Kind of like spending your money on a new haircut and then wearing a hat.

Andy - you wouldn't cover up your entire floor, just directly in front of the most common work areas like the sink and the stovetop or other prep area like an island. Standing and working in the kitchen for any period of time will lead to fatigue and discomfort that the flooring can do little to alleviate and these mats are invaluable and can make any standing job considerably more enjoyable.
