Taxidermy Meets Stiletto: The $43,000 "Dovima" by Roger Vivier

Care to strut around with some real dead animals on your feet? Designer Bruno Frisoni for Roger Vivier not only thinks you do, but he's willing to bet that at least some of us are willing to pay through the nose for the privilege. The Dovima, as the shoe is known, is beautiful (and slightly creepy) thanks to the rose pink-dyed taxidermy birds perched delicately on each toe. Each stuffed bird also has a crystal-encrusted head and is further complemented by 24 ct gold-coated mesh, silk, ribbons, and crocodile-skin rosettes. Plus every pair comes with special protective crocodile or snakeskin platforms that attach before you wear them to keep the shoes from ever touching the ground. All for just $43,000 and three months of waiting after you order.
What will they think of next? Be sure to see more of Roger Vivier's Spring/Summer 2009 shoes in the gallery below.

The sad thing about this is that he will make a lot of money off this poor taste and design. Now how many birds will have to die for the Rich and Famous? Beside I thought that all these Designer's are suppose to be such big Animal Rights Supporters. I guess when the animals are supporting there pockets it's OK.

Doncha know that women wo can afford these shoes are also wearin the blood diamond rocks fom south africa, animal fur coats and have servants helping them put these clothes on with thier adoring husbands/lovers are footing the bill....and telling them how lovely they look!

To the commenter who said that the animal activists will be screaming bloody murder with these outrageous blood soaked shoes, I say to you that the activists who react this way want to see an animal cruelty free society with a moral obligation to inform society about the atrocities that are going on and yes buster they have alot of things to do that are worthy of your attention. These activists that you pooh pooh are working towards a responsible, greener and more honorably thinking society where all species will be respected and honored and not made into a tawdry shoe that's 43,000 dollars. These shoes only disgrace and demean the values that many hold dear and honorable. The fashion industry is a druggies den of hellish artificial numbskull imbeciles who party and overdose on drugs. This shoe and the tawdry crass useless good for nothings in the fashion industry represent the toxic energies that created these shoes. I hope the dead birds will take a karmic twist on the creators of this bloodfeast and wipe out and improverish its creators. This sadistic fashion belongs on a dusty shelf where no one in their right mind will buy it!

It's no wonder people in other nations look upon Americans with disgust at their wastefulness. I'd have been proud of an American who gave $43,000 to a country of starving people.

This is going to be a funny shoe for all the animal activists to scream bloody murder over ha ha. I can hear them getting ready already since they really have nothing better to do with there time. Don't get me wrong I think its a complete waste of money and silly looking. I think it proves that we are a country of excess and that even the current position of the economy can not stop peoples greed to have something based only on its big price tag.

I simply don't see the point in making something like this and spending that much time and money, killing not only the bird, but the crocodiles, snakes etc. It seems plain stupid this stuff is going on when there are real issues we need people to solve.

Thank you for your sensible and kind comments about civilized people toward the fool who criticized PETA and its members. Unfortunately, I don't think the person who wrote the original piece has enough intelligence to comprehend what you wrote, but I appreciate it.

Umm, okay, I'm guessing they're embalmed or something to preserve the bird. Wouldn't it eventually, you know, decay or something?!
I absolutely love animals and would never endorse killing them in the name of sport or fashion, but aside from the fact that this is exactly what the designer does, they're gorgeous shoes!
Gorgeous in a tacky sort of "they're-nice-to-look-at-but-I'd-never-wear-them" kind of way, haha.

This is incredible: the world has gone crazy! The thought of it alone sends itters down one's spine - dead body[bird] on my shoes???? WellI suppose crazy people do crazy things anyway.

Cannot believe anyone would buy these. Advertizement at its best! Please let me know who has purchased a set of these shoes. It make makes the US look like a bunch of children that squable about these sort of items. Too bad we cannot just talk about good and great things, not just items that are shocking to make news. The way of thinking is unfortunately mind corrupted. Let us all pray that the world will become a better place to live for our children and families. Peace to all.

OMG! This is sick! Roger needs to be made into a statue for revenge of the birds!
rbaker Mar 15th 2009 7:05PM
First, the shoes are not beautiful. They are another item of "haute couture" that no normal person would ever wear. Second, why kill birds to make them? The birds on these shoes don't even look real so why not just buy a bag of craft feathers, a styrofoam "head" and decorate away. Such nonsense!
Michael Mar 16th 2009 9:08AM
What a waste of time and money!
Gilding dead birds so showy wealthy women can strut is repulsive to me.
I hope the manufacturer of these shoes goes
"belly-up" . . . . Then he can eat his birds for dinner!

The world is a mess...and the lack of values for life, whether human or animal has sunk us as low as we can go. Animals are not for wearing...they are here to add beauty and joy to the world. This designer obviously has nothing better to do than put dead birds on his shoes...ugly as the rest of the collection.
marci Mar 15th 2009 8:35PM
hey, what was i thinking? i just buried a dead squirrel in the park but i'll dig it up + use it as a wristlet. that would be stylish. no? dead mice bracelet?
now that's city chic. it's o.k., what goes around, comes around. he'll pay.
Sally Mar 16th 2009 12:51AM
I think this is cruel, disgusting, and obscene. To kill beautiful birds or ANY animals is just simply inhumane and completely unnecessary. To twist the beauty of these animals by attaching them to these trashy, crass creations is atrocious! I cannot comprehend why anybody would want to even look at these products, let alone wear them!! There are people starving in this world, many species of our wildlife are nearing extinction, and our planet earth is being slowly destroyed. How can this sort of obscenity be justified in anyway when some beautiful creature has had to die, so that some self centred, rich & uncompassionate person (if you can even call them that), can strut around wearing these beautiful animals on their feet and pay outrageous amounts of money to do so? This money could be used to protect our wildlife, forests, starving people of the world and a million other deserving causes. Roger Vivier, why don't you get Bruno Frisoni to design these shoes using his and your own skin and hair? Then people could wear them with pride, knowing that every step they took would be literally grinding you both into the ground. From one who genuinely cares about our world and its wildlife.

For you morons that have nothing better to do but rag on Americans, do your damn homework.
Roger Vivier is a designer in PARIS. You know, the one in France? The France that is in Europe? The Europe that is NOT in America (North or South)?
Yes, there are stupid things that Americans do just as there are stupid things that those of you from each and every country in the world do. But, come on, people. Learn your geography.
