Taxidermy Meets Stiletto: The $43,000 "Dovima" by Roger Vivier

Care to strut around with some real dead animals on your feet? Designer Bruno Frisoni for Roger Vivier not only thinks you do, but he's willing to bet that at least some of us are willing to pay through the nose for the privilege. The Dovima, as the shoe is known, is beautiful (and slightly creepy) thanks to the rose pink-dyed taxidermy birds perched delicately on each toe. Each stuffed bird also has a crystal-encrusted head and is further complemented by 24 ct gold-coated mesh, silk, ribbons, and crocodile-skin rosettes. Plus every pair comes with special protective crocodile or snakeskin platforms that attach before you wear them to keep the shoes from ever touching the ground. All for just $43,000 and three months of waiting after you order.
What will they think of next? Be sure to see more of Roger Vivier's Spring/Summer 2009 shoes in the gallery below.

Why such an unfocused and pejorative 'review' of this item? You don't make it seem like it belongs in a luxury review site, although it certainly would qualify. Maybe your real audience is PETA or some second graders.

And the gap between 'luxury' and 'classy' widens even further.
Bill Feb 16th 2009 5:38PM
Hey! If I provide my own dead birds, do I get a discount? LOL! ;)
soledad Feb 19th 2009 8:03AM
why not dead people ?

You have to kill more birds to make the feather covered shoes, these are bueatiful, those birds are celebrated, and crocadiles aren't good for much else.

Looks like she was walking in New York City and decided to kick a bird that wouldn't get out of her way.

you know, you could buy a small home for a price of those dead bird shoes. Or you could help several people in need. no wonder the world is going to heck in a handbasket

LOL Bill!
Next thing you know, teens will be killing and painting their pet parakeets and gluing them to their shoes.
The fashion industry is so incredibly stupid. If I wanted to wear something dead, I'd take up hunting and save the $43,000.

There goes the mortgage, oh well at least your feet look good. I've always said people with lots of money will be stupid and do stupid things with it.
alexandra Feb 19th 2009 8:09AM
I'm totalllly sickened and appalled by this. I hope PETA drop red paint on this sorry excuse for a designer!
Rick1400 Feb 19th 2009 8:13AM
I simply don't see the point in making something like this and spending that much time and money, killing not only the bird, but the crocodiles, snakes etc. It seems plain stupid this stuff is going on when there are real issues we need people to solve.

What a sad bunch of F*&%ing losers we are, in this world. Dead birds on shoes!! Come on people, smarten up!!
jason Feb 19th 2009 8:42AM
This is going to be a funny shoe for all the animal activists to scream bloody murder over ha ha. I can hear them getting ready already since they really have nothing better to do with there time. Don't get me wrong I think its a complete waste of money and silly looking. I think it proves that we are a country of excess and that even the current position of the economy can not stop peoples greed to have something based only on its big price tag.
susan Feb 19th 2009 9:00AM
stupid, sick, overly self indulgent idiots will want these . the fashion industry is a joke that creates utter nonsense that normal down to earth people only laugh at or shake their heads in disgust
Angiebaby Feb 19th 2009 9:02AM
Um, $43k? I don't think so. With a bb gun, a pair of Payless shoes, and a visit to the Wal-Mart crafts department, you could make these babies for about $43 bucks.
Kathleen Feb 19th 2009 9:04AM
I'd rather see his ass on the tip of my boot.
tammy Feb 19th 2009 9:54AM
get real!! with the way this economy is?..spend that money on something needed. this is ridiculous!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
