Remote Resort Promises Guilt-Free Investment

The Cacao Pearl, Palawan promises to be the world's first non-profit and luxury eco-resort community. The Cacao Pearl will occupy a private island with 124 acres of rainforest at the northernmost tip of the Palawan Biosphere Reserve in the Philippines. Cacao Resorts has promised to commit 100 per cent of operating profits from the resort to environmental protection and social improvements.

The boutique resort will have offer homes for sale and the property includes an infinity pool, spa, organic gardens, bar, restaurant, private media rooms and touts itself as a "guilt-free investment." Former film art director, Antonio Calvo ("Love Actually," "Alexander", "Pride & Prejudice".) has designed 60 private residences with green features like solar panels, low flow toilets and passive cooling.

As Treehugger pointed out last month it will take a lot of energy just to get to the remote island and they questioned whether or not the kindest thing for the environment would be to let the island exist in its untouched state.

Two bedrooms villas are being listed for $260,129.
