Serena Williams Wears Million-Dollar Diamond Necklace To A Press Conference
We've documented Serena Williams's love of diamonds before but the tennis champ topped herself this time, showing up at a post-match press conference in a diamond necklace worth $2.5 million.
Williams wore the 427-diamond necklace after her first round win over Australian Samantha Stosur at the Sydney International tournament. Williams had met with a jewelry designer in Sydney over the weekend who offered her the pricey piece to wear during a match.
She decided not to play with the necklace because she was too concerned about what would happen to it but decided to wear it to the press conference instead.

This is one unflattering picture of Serena Williams.
How did that photographer's photo get bought?

I think the photo of Serena is fine, I wish we could really see the details of the necklace so as to justify the cost. It doesn't look like two million to me, but who knows.

Oh, and unfortunately for the designer, in the story link, they don't even credit him for the necklace. That pr stunt didn't work.

No one could send a makeup artist to get her ready for the event? the PR firm should never get another client.

Wow, a $2.5 mil. necklace. You think she would have shaved for that.

Way to go Serena. Which diamond mine did those come from? I suppose you were just giving a "brother" a "job" right? I guess you "ain't got a thing if you ain't got that bling", right? I'll be socially responsible ... after I get mine, right? Give the oppressed some money and they will become the oppressors.

Gabrielle:
Your comment is tasteless, offensive, and clearly racist. Celebrities, socialites, and people with money from all backgrounds have excessive taste that gets reported on. When the Oscars come around, and Cameron Diaz or some other celebrity reportedly wear millions of dollars worth of jewelry, do you then burst out with a diatribe of racist comments that show your ignorance and make you sound like you watch WAY too much MTV cribs? Probably not. Maybe Serena, as an individual, is exhibiting her personal sense of style with her choice of jewelry. Like it or not, judge it as an individual decision, NOT an opportunity for you to show that racism is still alive.

She does look like a man in drag. Looks like OJ when he was young. YUCK!
Bill Jan 13th 2009 9:01PM
What a waste of money! The necklace is about as ugly as her picture. Just think what someone with taste or a charitable heart could do with that kind of money.
gabrielle Jan 13th 2009 9:03PM
$2.5 M in jewels and she still looks like $1.49.
Frank Jan 13th 2009 9:10PM
I'm not really surprised. Those of her tribe tend to like lots of shiny things.

Speaking of ignorance V, you (and Serena) are showing yours. As a "person of color", Serena should be acutely aware of the slavery involved in the procurement of diamonds. Are you saying it's okay for her because "whitey" does it too? I wouldn't buy a diamond and I don't think anyone else should either, but the story is about HER.

The hateful comments in this blog just proves what Catherine De Medici said is correct: The rich must, above all, be inconspicuous.

She didn't need those diamonds to make herself be seen. But there is a place and time to wear them, During a tournament to me wouldn't be the place. Walking the carpet to recieve awards dressed in the proper attire then yes. have a new designer make sense out of the scrambled eggs for diamonds and make it a show piece. The designer needs help.

The finest diamonds are colorless, rare, and expensive. However, Color has no affect on the brilliance of a diamond and the higher grades not always the best value for the buyer.
