Lindley Hall, Estate of the Day

Another Warren and Wetmore masterpiece in Tuxedo Park, New York, Lindley Hall has one of the most beautiful sun rooms I have ever seen. The home was originally built for Henry Whitney Munroe and was purchased in 1926 by Clara Hill Lindley, sister of Ruth Hill Beard, who built another famous Tuxedo Park Chateau, Chastellux. The Louis XIIII style chateau has views of the lake and mountains and is full of large ornate rooms with heavy fireplaces, wood paneling and marble floors. The pictures aren't great and I suspect it's in need of some renovation but those curved doorways and moldings are amazing. It is listed at $6.75 million.

I guess if there were a real, live "Wayne Manor", this could fit the bill.

That sun room is stunning. Always boggles my mind that they don't use a professional photographer when trying to sell a property of this caliber...

Bella! I like it! A proper renovation of same particular is needed, but the main structure, the furniture and design are ok.

I've always enjoyed this property which has been on the market before in the last decade at a fraction of the price. To be truthful that was the case with any home in Tuxedo Park up until the last 8 years so. Lindley Hall was used - just as the magnificent McKim, Mead & White designed Chateau Chastellux was - as a girls school post WWII when many homes in Tuxedo Park were dramatic financial burdens upon once wealthy families.
Perhaps just the photos but the rooms seem a tad dull with the woodwork and paint. Like all of the for-sale homes feature on Luxist I ignore the furniture as that doesn't determine the vision of what good architecture is. I'll admit bad furniture certainly can cloud that vision too.
This manor has excellent, unique lines and a gracious old world design not found today even with newly built $25M+ level homes. Skilled artisans designed and constructed it. Tuxedo Park being the first gated community in the US is still the benchmark for homesites which don't overwhelm the setting. Hence mature trees near the house compliment the package.
The next owner hopefully is retrained as the house is itself. Too many would-be owners of this price point would cut down every tree and put in a basketball court next to the house. So wrong!
