Milan's Poor Get Caviar For Christmas

Milan's poor citizens are getting a special treat this year, caviar for Christmas. Officials in Milan seized 88 pounds of contraband beluga caviar from smugglers recently Instead of destroying the haul worth over $550,000, they are donating it to the Red Cross, Franciscan monks, care homes and organizations which prepare Christmas food for the homeless and poor around Milan. The Daily Mail reports that the banned beluga caviar is being served in portions more generous than those in fancy restaurants. The caviar was found in the refrigerator of a private house and several people have been arrested in the case.

This is asinine and a criminal waste.
I can't imagine that homeless shelters have the facilities to handle the caviar properly or that a very high percentage of the homeless they are serving would prefer a half ounce of beluga to the kind of meal the shelters could have purchased with $100 per person.
They should have sold the caviar to someone who enjoys it and donated the money to charity.

agreed! i HATE caviar and would think that a LOT of people do also, they just like the status symbol it comes with .. this is grossly negligent on their part in an attempt to teach whomever a 'lesson' ..

They should sell it to some of the upscale restaurants, and then purchase food that would be more likely eaten! Many people do not care for caviar, so this would ensure a good $ take for the food pantries that would also be longer lasting - how much does it cost per ounce of cavier? $$$ that is what I thought!

I honestly love caviar in small portions. Like on a cracker, on top of an omelette, on a baked potatoe etc. The best is a cracker, cream cheese, caviar, chopped onion and chopped hardcooked egg. Yummy. I made a caviar pie for dinner 2 nights before a mans 5 years colonoscopy. I ate the entire thing but like I said, it was too much. I won't go ino detail about the hospital, but the Dr said it was psyshedelic up there.

Could have sold the caviar and given the poor some money, which I would hope they would spend on bettering their lives. If you are looking for information on how to buy caviar http://www.buybelugacaviar.co.uk has a lot of info.
