Barack Obama's Holiday Vacation Rental

President-elect Barack Obama is enjoying one last vacation in Hawaii, where he grew up, before his inauguration. The Obama family will be staying in a $9 million single-story oceanfront home fronting Kailua Beach. The home sits on a dead-end road with few other homes making it easier for the Secret Service to protect. The home was originally built in 1934 for Harold K.L. Castle, the landowner who developed much of Kailua after World War II and was renovated in 2005. The home is listed on a vacation rental directory, http://www.hawaiisbestrentals.com and given the description it appears to be this one which rents for $2500-$3500 a night. The home is less than a mile from another beach house where the Obama family stayed during August vacation. Given the weather in most of the U.S. it sounds like the best place to stay warm over the holidays.

Wow, must be nice. Private chartered jet (wonder what the CEO's of the Big 3 think about that) million dollar digs on the Island (His sister's house must not have been good enough) or perhaps he should have asked Gov. Lingle of Hawaii to stay with her after all he wanted to move into Blair house early. He says he is a common man with a common purpose to help the middle class well this basic middle class person doesn't know his way of life.

And so it starts. . . . They all get seduced by the money and glitter. I expected so much more from Obama.

You people are amazing. I am a die hard republican. I voted for McCain. I felt he was the lesser of two evils. I did not feel Obama was or is qualified. There is no way I could give him my vote. With that being said, he is our president elect. I hope and pray that he does a good job. I hope his ideas truly do work. You need to lighten up on this man and give him a chance. Where he goes on vacation, or how much he spends, is not our concern. Every president, republican and democrat are entitled to perks and safety. Seems to me, the location of this place makes it easier to protect him from the loonies out there who are racists or radicals. Why don't you all stop complaining and hope and pray he becomes one of the greatest presidents ever. I am not saying that will occur, but it sure would be nice.

I wish I had your optimism but unfortunately I don't. OBAMA IS NOT MY PRESIDENT AND NEVER WILL BE. I will not support a person who stole the election with ACORN's help. He also received illegal campaign contributions that were charged to stolen credit cards. He is part of the corrupt Chicago Machine and he and Michelle are as dirty as chimney sweeps.

You really shouldn't talk about yourself like that. I guess you're just modest. HUH?
annie Dec 23rd 2008 10:46PM
Now if he really wanted to make a change, he would forego the big, expensive innagaration (sp) and be swore in like a regular civil servant that the president is. I think he is about change and think what a message he would be sending by not spending the million or so on a big fancy, tv, innagaration. He deserves it, but think of the message of change he would promote.

I can't figure out why the web page is coming up with B. Hussein's vacation page. Who cares? Once more the people are getting screwed. I never heard of giving a paid vacation before you start a job. But then, most of the scandal and corruption starts AFTER you get in office, not before. Some more of this transparent administration I suppose. Get out of town while this mess with the Illinois governor get settled down. Of course, Hussein did not know anything about this. Yeah, right!

Boopie Dec 25th 2008 1:31AM
Everyone just needs to get over themselves because we have one of the finest families we just voted into office. President Elect Obama will turn our country around.......why do you think he won the election by a landslide? Nothing makes me prouder to think of this family walking through the White House doors.........and yes, this is a much deserved vacation for him. He is my HERO!

I hate that most people are being so negative and mean. We all should calm down and make the best out of this situation and all others by concentrating on things we can control. It makes no sense to get this upset and angry over something we can't change for another 4 years. Volunteer at a homeless shelter, battered women's shelter, etc....these are ways we can all make a difference instead of saying hurtful things about something we can't change.
