Australian Artist Puts First Painting On eBay For $1 Million

Australian artist Greg Gillespie has big dreams. He hopes to sell his first painting on eBay for $1 million Australian. Gillespie, a former commercial artist, created an inaugural series of ten works and decided to list this one on eBay for the high price. He calls this the "Younique Project" and in the listing he does not reveal the size of the work. But Gillespie isn't being audaciously greedy, he is planning to keep just one dollar and donate the rest to Compassion International to help poor children. The auction ends December 15 and so far no one has come up with the cash.

Needless to say that's pretty arrogant for a pretty mediocre piece . . even for his first one. Not only that, he's just trying to make a quick attempt on hitting big bucks. He has no obligation to donate it to charity . . . and if he does, he will get a huge tax deduction for a $999,999 donation.
Either way the guy is a douchebag.

Great idea actually. See, his work would obviously not be worth an awful lot, however if its for charity then potential buyers would think that its all going to charity and thus think of it as a charitable donation. Because of this, although he wouldn't get any money, the sale would dramatically boost his name as an artist because of the sale and will allow him to sell high priced artwork in the future.
This guy is trying to boost his image be using charities and charitable people. He's doing a good thing for the wrong reasons.

Upon first glance, I see balance, great colors and complexity. Then I really looked at this painting... looking for sadness, for light, for darkness and for soul explosion... these are the things to me that usually present as great art.
What I see is Darth Vader on the left, a guillotine above and "the devil made me do it", Jesus or an evil Planet of the Apes character on the right and at the bottom, a kkk member praying or holding up stumps or a gun. The figure at the bottom may also represent a victim of Abu Ghraib... not sure.
Nonetheless, there is definitely potential here but not $1M worth. Mind you if I had the money, I might buy with the guarantee it would be disposed of as cited.

Listing fees on eBay must be huge. It isn't anything special unless you are flying on oxycotin.
