Crantzdorf Estate, Estate of the Day

Today's estate is one of those elaborate fairy tale homes that requires a lot of money and a certain type of buyer. This castle-style home in East Tennessee took over 10 years to create. It is over 20,000+ sq. ft. with 21 rooms including nine bedrooms. The rooms keep the theme of the exterior combining both antique pieces and new furniture on a grand scale. The fountain and doors and fireplaces are antique as well and the home includes handcast moldings, Italian marble floors and stained glass. There is a large home theater, indoor basketball court, large pool and a replica of the Bristol Motor Speedway complete with six cars. The home sits on 13 acres on Boone Lake and has lake access containing a boat house and gazebo. It is listed at $28.5 million.

UPDATE: This home caught fire on January 10 and suffered major damage.

Now there's a house you can actually see why it costs as much as it does. . .but I wish there was more pics of the interior!

Yeah. Unlike most houses on Luxist, this one really lives up to its price tag.
Wish there was more interior photos (for inspiration) - this house is clearly for the person who prefers quality over quantity (even though its got 22k+ sqft!).

got to love the trailer park-esque inground pool with the curved slide and chrome ladder bars...

It's a collection harmonious between the aesthetics, size and furnishings. Very very beautiful. I agree also with Kevin: some more pics of the interior...

Not only are there very few interior shots, but this house is supposedly on a lake with a dock and boathouse. It would be nice to see pics of those too!

Stunning house! I was just looking at exterior moldings today (www.decoramould.com) and this gave me an idea for over my garage.

Fire Tears Through $28M Tennessee Castle-Home

My parents live less than a mile from the home and though is impressive, in person, it does sort of look like a cross between Disney Land and a gothic "Gooney Golf". There are elements (windows, pool, et) that just don't fit. However, it is on a narrow pass in the lake and the setting couldn't be more beautiful. A picture from across the lake would have been easily taken and spoken volumes....

look closely at the few indoor shots, they appear dated, and the outside shots mke the grounds look unkept...how long has it been for sale....and who owns it..... it caught fire last night.....arson? insurance claim? these are hard economic times.... something was filmed here...does anyone remember?
MW Jan 11th 2009 11:14AM
With all that (lake) water near the castle, it's hard to imagine why they skimped and didn't have a fire-suppression system installed to squelch the fire's start in the first place.
With the fire insurance money, it'd be a good time to replace those butt-kickin', ugly windows and the pool slide.
