Chanel to Increase Prices 20% in November
.jpg)
Chanel continues to live by a kind of oblivious "no time like the present!" mantra, what with its recent Zaha Hadid installation and now the news of a 20% price increase on its classic handbags, set to take effect November 1. According to fashion blog nitro:licious, a Classic Caviar Jumbo Flap Bag (above) that currently retails for $2,850 will jump to $3,420 in a mere couple weeks.
Didn't think I'd ever say my handbag was performing better than my 401(k), but I think Chanel just said it for me.

Actually, I pity people who feel they must wear the obvious designer bags, shoes, etc. They are very insecure and sad. I think it's ridiculous to pay huge sums of money to advertise someone else. Now, excellent handbags that aren't showy are much more classy.

Call me greedy...I just bought my first Chanel bag at 55 and no I cannot afford it on a school teacher's salary, BUT it makes me feel good and I LOVE IT that I was able to get it before they go up. What...oh yeah, I am BROKE! BUT I have my Chanel and it makes me feel GOOOOD . In these times I need to feel good about something, don't I?

If you want a nice ride, you buy a Lincoln instead of a cheap, 4 cylinder import. If you want a nice trip, fly business or 1st class. If you are craving beef, go to Smith and Wolensky instead of Burger King.
Over 15 years ago, a friend wanted a Gucci purse. She saved and then went directly to Worth Avenue. The purse is still in good condition, and like most of these, they will always be stylish. My friend gets a card once a year to bring her bag in for a cleaning and any minor repairs. She got more than her money's worth. Did anyone know Coach is in Norwalk Connecticut and one day a year they open to the public and give tremendous discounts?
I read between the lines and see an awful lot of jealousy here. Save up and treat yourself. You deserve it. Or, go to the website where you can rent these bags. bagborrow&steal or something like that. Look it up. All the latest styles and very inexpensive. Perfect for a resort vacation or your husbands office Christmas party.

Only wealthy snobs cAn afford such stupid spending on hand bag that will sit in the closet after 2 3 weeks of use. Just a waste of money for another wealthy butt knob who charges that much for a 25.00 dollar bag. Just by putting a stupid ridiculous price on any item just about.SO THE CASH BOUND ASSHOLES OF AMERICA WILL FEEL INPORTANT.
Most purse owners of suck tacky crap has 30 - 50 of them just cluttering up their closet...
Glad I don't have a bimbo retard for a wife. Then again, most wives of wealthy men are really whores making a buck the legal way..

Not a problem, Richard Fuld's wife will probably buy a boatload at any price, since he stole so much money from Lehman Bros. And the boys at AIG can give them out like candy with the bail out money!!

Yep. Just want the economy needed. Over the top handbags that only Sarah Palin can afford.
Yeah...I said it!

Like most luxury brands, Chanel products are incredibly overpriced for what they actually are. And, I can guarantee you that one is paying at least a 1000% markup on higher-end Chanel products - I'm not talking about their sunglasses, etc..
However, this exclusivity, which is based solely on price and nothing else, is part of Chanel's appeal for a certain market segment. Also - I'm *not* being an asshole about this either - they aren't making products for just anyone to buy. They're marketing them to the financially well-off.
Even during tough economic periods the well-off are the least likely to be effected. So, this move probably wont hurt Chanel one little bit.
By the way, I'm not rich either - probably like a lot of people responding to this post. However, I do understand how luxury branding and marketing work. Therefore, I have no need to be angry or jealous over a move like this by Chanel - I would never buy anything from them anyway, unless I could get an incredible discount on it. ;)
