Chanel to Increase Prices 20% in November
.jpg)
Chanel continues to live by a kind of oblivious "no time like the present!" mantra, what with its recent Zaha Hadid installation and now the news of a 20% price increase on its classic handbags, set to take effect November 1. According to fashion blog nitro:licious, a Classic Caviar Jumbo Flap Bag (above) that currently retails for $2,850 will jump to $3,420 in a mere couple weeks.
Didn't think I'd ever say my handbag was performing better than my 401(k), but I think Chanel just said it for me.

damn those handbags are more than my house payment. what is with these boards and all of the advertising? every board no matter what the subject has the same old thing someone touting their diet, or organic shirts among other things who the hell cares what your diet is the topic is chanel handbags not flax diets which btw when youre rocking that old navy handbag you better have a lot of napkins to wipe up from that diet

dont make fun of people who can actually afford it.
Mallory Oct 23rd 2008 7:34PM
I agree!! Everyone on this board is just jealous because SOME people can still afford Chanel even with the economical situation. If people couldn't afford it before, this entire board doesn't even apply to them because there's no way they can afford it now!!!

Hey Krista and Mallory- Why dont you stop being ignorant b*****s and realize people are not jealous they are just being real. Houses and food are more important right now. Good luck girls on the credit card debt and hey Mallory I am a medical resident and hope you realize the school loan debt you will have, you wont be buying chanel soon. Morons.

The only ones that can afford one are the liberal democrates on welfare that the hard working republicans support

If Saks can't sell it for the price now then they can't sell it for the new price......they will end up on a sale table after xmas again as usual....especially since they wholesale to them for just cents on the dollar.
krista Oct 23rd 2008 9:43PM
HAHAHAHAHAHAH uhh, english please?
Mallory Oct 24th 2008 1:45AM
Actually, I don't have credit card debt because my parents buy them for me. Thanks for your concern, but while other things are more important, if I'm able to live in a house and buy food and still have money left over why shouldn't I spend it on what I want? Finally, I won't have loans to pay off, because my parents are paying for me to go to Medical School. I don't take out loans for school--neither do they--because they just have to be paid off. When you have the money to pay the tuition, why not pay it up front? But really, thanks! :)

Please....nobody can afford a $3,000 handbag. Look at the economy. If I had that kind of money I sure would'nt spend it on a handbag. I'd help others. What happened to helping others. Why are people so greedy. When is enough enough..........What is Chanel doing to help those in need?......
edbaggett Oct 23rd 2008 6:00PM

I am a man, so I don't have a Chanel bag. A very good friend has several Chanel bags purchased over the years, she probably started 30 years ago. Her bags have lasted forever, but more importantly, they always make her feel put together, professional, accomplished. Chanel bags never really go out of style, not the one pictured at least. You can have it forever. Prices go up, some people can afford them and some people run to Chinatown to get a copy. Maybe the male equivalent is an Hermes briefcase, although I don't have one. I carry a Ferragamo instead.

Obviously an attempt to get the existing bags off the shelves before the price goes up. Most likely the wives of the bankers who just got part of the 700B payout.

I wouldn't buy one of those bags if I was a billionaire! What a freaking waste of money! "My bag cost more than your does" and who the hell cares! In this day and age you could feed your family for six months really with that kind of cash! (grocery store and not restaurant). Anyone spending that kind of cash on something so frivolously stupid should have their head checked out!

The bag isn't made in America. If the company raises prices it's because they are not having the same financial challenges in Italy or France. Not to say some of them weren't poor to begin with in Italy, but when you spend 800 bucks on a bag and drive around on a bike to get around in Italy (which is what they do) then you think the hike will really make a difference? I don't think Chanel really cares about the economic situation in America anyway.
